so i'm going on vacation to a very sunny, hot location soon. i know that my (soon to be) pink hair will not survive the whole trip, but i want to do my best because i love it. i was looking up sun protector sprays and such when i found this homemade recipe here, and i was wondering if it would be any good for colorful hair. i use this sunscreen because i'm allergic to the chemicals in most sunscreens, so i would probably use that in it along with peppermint oil (oily hair), matrix colorlast conditioner, and btz heat protectant.
would the sunscreen mess with my hair color at all? is there a store-bought one you can recommend? any advice would be super!
I make my own out of red raspberry seed oil. It has a natural SPF range of 28-50, has Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and omega 6 +3 fatty acids, and protects against UVA and UVB rays. I first made it with rose water in a spray bottle but it seperates and the spray bottle got clogged a bit. I ended up just using my regular thin silicone free conditioner, Suave's Tropical Coconut to help bind everything together, some water, and added the red raspberry oil to it and some coconut oil too for some extra moisture, keeping it in just an old, small conditioner bottle. It did seem to help when I had pastels last summer. I imagine adding some actual sunscreen like in your recipe would up the SPF too. I really like red raspberry oil in the summertime for hair and skin. I do burn very easily but when I use that oil, even if I do burn a bit it's not as bad/inflamed as when I use just regular sunscreen alone as it has anti inflammatory properties to it too!
