A little known fact from Matty's endless vault of useless info coming up:
My mother, as some of you know, has been battling baldness for a few years and has finally found an expert who is helping her to regrow her hair - it's working too I'm amazed! The man who's helping was taught by his father who lives on the French Riviera (very nice too). The reason he's such an expert is because the ladies down there like to stay out in the sun. This bleaches their hair and due to the heat their bodies no longer make thick hair. Hair is for warmth and if you're in a hot climate you don't need extra thick hair so your body naturally thins it out. Also the sun bleaches the hair and many of them bleach blonde anyway coz it looks cool against their tans.
The damage from the sun, the heat and the bleaching (both natural and unnatural) has made some women go bald! Only in patchy areas, or it has severely thinned out their hair so therefore this guy became something of an expert on helping these beautiful young ladies get their hair back.
So if anyone is suffering from thinning hair due to bleaching here are some tips from an expert in the field who's results I've seen for myself on a lady with alopecia (my mum).
1) Wear a sun hat. This is so good for so many reasons. First of all it protects your hair, but also a nice wide brim protects your skin from the sun's harmful rays.
NOTE: During the winter do NOT wear a hat! It will make your head colder and encourage your body to produce thicker hair in order to keep your body heat in.
2) During the summer be more inclined to bleach bath, be gentle on your head as the sun will bleach you as well and that's no good for your hair condition.
3) As always, use a good conditioner. you can't skimp on this. Get a good brand like Aussie and use it as a regular thing, not just when your hair is fried.
4) Head massage! Seriously, it encourages the follicles to work. Either do it yourself for 10 minutes a day (5 in the morning and 5 at night, it's not too much to ask). Or get your luvverrr to do it for you, it's fun for so many reasons. π Or treat yourself every now and then to an Indian head massage. I've had one, it's incredibly relaxing! It'll help with the stresses of every day life too, so happy hair, happy you.
5) If all else fails and your hair is still weak and thin, find a specialist - not a hair stylist or a doctor but a specialist in hair regrowth. My mum found hers by accident after years of being bald. She was told by doctors that she was doomed to stay that way. Her old hairdresser said she couldn't cut the hair to cover it without her growing her hair long (she hates long hair) so she was very upset for many years. Now she has an expert who has cut her hair short, left it longer at the crown to cover the patch and the patch is now sooo much smaller due to his work and her doing as she was told regarding the hats and so forth.
So don't despair if you find that during the summer your bleached blonde is seeming rather thin and lacklustre. It's not the end of the world! Dress up for the summer and make sure you have that all important sun hat!.
Wow. That was very informative. Thanks matty! I'm sitting in the sun at work and now feel very naughty not wearing a hat :s
~throws myself at your head~
Well you need to protect yourself from the sun, regardless of hair thinning or any other problems. And as you can see from that picture, some hats are dead cool!
wow it's a good job my mum decided that for our holiday she was gunna buy everyone a straw hat, and mine has a pretty big rim around it π thanks for letting us know matty, i bet there's loads of us, (like pippa :P) being naughty and sitting in the hot weather without a hat π
I know we're all a bit short of cash but for just under Β£10 you can get this hat with a choice of colours:
Add some awesome sunglasses and a nice summer outfit and you're in the French Riviera like my mum's hairdresser's dad! Woot!
Personally I have a cowboy hat that I love and I don't care what ya say so ner. π
oh my goddd, the orange one is amazing!:o
and i think cowboy hats're the bomb! i have an outfit that'd totally complete the luck with a cowboy hat xD personally, i love cowboy boots too! :O
I will tell my mum about wearing a hat in winter as she has thin hair!
Doesn't bleaching your hair make it thinner anyway because the pigment is removed? Either way my hair looked considerably thinner compared to the roots and very transparent also. I hated it!
You can get hats really cheap on holiday and at festivals etc where you might be in the sun - get one before you burn your scalp like I did!
yes! scalp burns are the worst! avoid them at all costs, and protect your hair at the same time by wearing a hat! xD
thankfully, i have no parting, so i don't get sunburn on my scalp anymore, because it's never showing! π
This is super informative.
It also makes me very glad that I avoid the sun at all costs, lol.
This was great info, thanks!
Ooo thanks for this Matty. I am the master of winter woolly hats but my hair is really thin, so I might just get some ear muffs this winter time and brave it! ;D
I have my straw hat already, but that's so that I don't have to do anything with my hair in the mornings haha! I mean.... I bought it for sun protection.....
I actuallu brought a sun hat last weekend and left it at my ma's π BUT I do wear factor 50 on my parting. I'm wearing a wooly hat today though π
Glad I can help guys.
pierat, constantly bleaching your hair can make it weaker and thinner. Getting bleach on your scalp all the time also creates problems at the start of the hair's growth. This is why hair becomes thinner the more you bleach it, you're basically damaging it as it grows.
Just keep bleaching to a minimum, use bleach baths to keep it gentle and take care of your scalp, skin and hair.
Sooo if I stop dyeing my hair with permanents will it get thicker or is it just bleach that does this?
as for sun damage, I usually spray heat protecting spray over my hair and brush it through before I go outside. It's meant for heat styling but without it the sun seems to straighten my hair when I'm out for so long aha.
