Hiya guys and gals
Can someone remind me what it means if my hair is stretchy when wet? I know there were previous discussions on it but I can't find them! *stars*
Basically I know I've damaged my hair (hair history: Bleach bath with 10 vol 1 year ago, making my hair light yellow, box demi over that about 2 months later, permanent brown with 20 vol about a month after that then another of the same permanent 3 months after and a demi in the last couple of months - with direct dyes about every 3 weeks throughout, so to cut a long story short 2x 20 vol permanents and 2 x box demis over light yellow in the course of a year) it's my own fault for pushing it, but I'm irresponsible like that.
So now it's matted when wet and yesterday I noticed that a strand that had fallen out was super stretchy like elastic! It is shedding a lot too but I've just been told I may have Pernicious Anaemia so that could be contributing to that.
It's fine when dry, just a bit fuzzy at the ends which I'm trimming regularly but would rather not do a big chop as I've just got it past an awkward triangle shape!
What is it that it needs? (just a note, I can't really use coconut oil as I have a slight food allergy to it so the smell makes me feel ill and I worry that it will encourage a skin allergy anyway!)
Hair is naturally stretchy when it's wet. But yeah, if it's too stretchy and won't stretch back, it's damaged. Shedding won't be connected to stretch though.
Maybe you should try Aphogee two step. Do you use protein generally?
I'm not sure how to describe it, it was stretchy in a different way than usual, like it stretched wayyyyy more then snapped. No I think the shedding will turn out to be the B12 to be honest!
I've never used protein, I've seen people talk about it on here but I'm never quite clear on what it does and when you need it!
Yup everything Janine said. If it's literally like chewing gum stretchy then that's damage. I used to use kpak which helped my hair, made my hair feel stronger, and then I'd condition it lots after as protein can be drying. I've never used Aphogee but lots of people on here have said it's good! Keep getting it trimmed and avoid the bleach and see how it goes π
I get a lot of shedding hair (like it can look like a handful at times) but that's generally because I am fond of having messy hair and rarely brush it lol so it's just hair that should've shed but has been tangled up more (hope I am making sense, I have two hyper kids here whilst I'm trying to type!) so maybe yours could just be natural shedding that got tangled? Or maybe cause its hot? (does hair shed more when its hot, anyone know?)
Glitter got there just before me!
I know what you mean, it's what gets nick named as chewing gummy. If it bounces back all the way then it should be fine, but I'm guessing it isn't. Exactly like chewing gum really!
It basically protein fills in the gaps where proteins have been lost/broken through processing and daily life. I do think one treatment of Aphogee would help a lot. Then you can do it every 6 weeks after. Just make sure to use a really good conditioner afterwards.
I think I might be over reacting a bit then as I don't think it's chewing gum stretchy but it's defo more stretchy than it should be, I think maybe a dose of protein and a good condition would help it a bit! I'll try the aphogee and I'm not going to colour it for a good while now, just use direct dyes if I'm going anywhere nice!
Yeah makes total sense about the tangling, I don't brush my hair much either so it could just be that!
I think I'm just a bit panicky coz I've been feeling really ill lately and then when I noticed I was shedding a lot and then when I noticed the stretchiness I was worried that I'd really messed up ha!
Thanks for the help and reassurance ladies!
If it's really just a bit stretchy, go for the kpak
Yeah I don't think it's as bad as chewing gum hair, like the texture isn't funny, it's just stretchier. Is it K Pak reconstructor I'm looking for?
Yep
Coolio, ta!
I agree with the others, stretchy hair responds well to protein. Always deep condition afterwards as protein alone can make damaged hair brittle
Lovely, thanks WickedPixie! Glad to hear it from you three as I know you are total experts! π
