Just wondering if anyone can explain the science behind SLS fading semi perm colours?
I dyed my hair extensions napalm orange a while ago to match my hair but now want to try getting them to turqoise and purple. I don't want to bleach them and ruin them, but don't want to spend hours leaning over the bath washing them over and over again with head and shoulders either.. would leaving them to soak in some head and shoulders do anything at all?
Or any other suggestions? If not I'll have to be buying some more, siiiiigh π
well SLS is a lathering agent and it thinks that semi dyes are dirt, so strips the colour. well thats my understanding of it. yeah defo's try leaving them to soak, also fairy washing up liquid is good
thanks for the reply pippa! soaking them in head and shoulders really worked! left them to soak overnight, rinsed them in the morning, left them to soak again while I was at work and just rinsed them out, they're back to very light blonde! perfect! π
wowza! that is impressive. i hope it works that well on my blue!
I'm so glad it worked for you!!
Glad you had such great results! Did you lather up the shampoo then leave them in it or did you just cover them in shampoo?
I washed them with lots of shampoo first, lathered them up loads, and rinsed (a lot of dye came out at this stage, maybe I hadn't rinsed them properly when initally dying them). Then I lathered up again and left them in a plastic jug overnight, covered with my shower cap to try and avoid them drying out too much. I rinsed them in the morning and again a lot of dye rinsed out, they were kind of blondey but with orange patches. I re-lathered and left them during the day, and rinsed when I got home from work. Great results! π Should have taken before and after photos, doh.
