I don't know about synth dreads and if this works with longer dreads too, but I have quite short dreads and have them in a tam/slouchy hat when I sleep sometimes. Keeps them all together and out of my face and neck.

When I have synth dreads I sleep with a bandana to hold them back in place. πŸ™‚

I used to have this issue too, it worked tying them up with an elastic band on the top on my head and moving them behind the top part of the pillow. Not sure if it helps...

I've never had dreads but when my long hair used to itch I used to put a pair of tights on my head, put one 'pigtail' down each leg, wrap them over the top of my head like heidi plaits then tie the toes of the tights together at the back. Was really comfy but made me look a bit of a loon.

I can't advise you regarding synthetic dreads as I've never worn them, but wool dreads on the other hand are an absolute dream to sleep on πŸ™‚ It's like having an extra pillow but attached to your head. I have trouble sleeping at the best of times and I actually sleep a lot better when I have wool dreads in. So while it doesn't help you right now, it's something you could maybe consider for the future πŸ™‚

Do you by any chance have a pic of your dreads posted on here?
