Scalp spots?

I am trying to wash my hair less, but i find it really hard because i touch it constantly which makes it greasy, plus when its not clean i can bear how it feels (i need to learn not to touch it as much)

Over the last couple of weeks i have washed my hair alternate days (i am usually an every dayer) and on the days i have had my curlformers in over night i have managed 3-4 days without washing (when i have curls i don't touch my hair as i want the curls to stay in)

but i have noticed that as a result of not washing my hair as frequently i have lots of spots on my scalp & as i am a picker i now have a couple of irritating ones...

Did anyone else experience this and was it less frequent once you get used to washing less frequently?

What do the spots feel like? Hard? Could they be scabs from picking?

Have you used dry powder shampoo to combat the greasy thing. The greasy thing should happen a lot less as you get used to washing less. I can't really say how fast as I've been a once a week washer since I was a child!

I feel your pain! I can only usually go alternate days or up to three days due to getting a spotty scalp. Mine are just like facial spots, but I do try not to touch them as it can cause irritation and pain when dying if they have broken or scabbed over.

When I do get them, I add a few drops of lavender oil or tea tree oil to my shampoo which seems to help them heal.

Unfortunately I've found that dry shampoo is a massive help in winter, but clogs my scalp more in summer and makes the problem worse. I'm not sure whether its recommended as it may be drying to the hair, but I have read that using a light alcohol based spray can help degrease roots. I do intend to try it at some point.

I've just done a super quick read up on spotty scalps. It looks like it could be a few things, but most often a fungal or bacterial infection was mentioned.

Have you talked to the doc about it? It's possible an anti fungal shampoo or dose of antibiotics might clear it up.

I don't think this is as simple as an oily scalp. It's even possible shampoo is making it worse. However, I also read that an overly oily scalp can make things worse (though you could be oily because you wash too often). Damned if you do and damned if you don't 😉 Go to the doc.

Coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, lots of people see an improvement in a range of scalp conditions after soaking or massaging in coconut oil. It is good for your hair too so worth a shot IMO.

Never thought about infections, though mine have become much better since using the lavender and teatree (antibacterial and antufungal dudes).
Oil is still a problem, but keeping up the co-washing to see how it goes. Must add the oils to the conditioner now too. Thanks, Janine!

they feel OK now, i think they were scabs from picking the spots. I only had a few, i think i a going to continue trying to go longer between washes, but the key thing for me, is not to touch my hair or pick spots/psoriasis.

I am on day 3 of not washing my hair and as i have consciously not touched my hair it feels fine, so i think i need to keep my hands away from my head!!

If it continues then i will visit my GP
