Yeah. The without bleach thing is kinda rubbish. Using highlift dyes is the same thing. Dyes just use large amounts of ammonia to give the lift that's needed and that's just as bad as bleaching. In fact bleaching is better as you can cater the bleach to the hair and how much lift you need to do. High lift dyes in red also fade faster than semi's, ironically. It's one of those weird truths that shouldn't be.

What colour is your partners hair now? What colour is it naturally (natural brunette is actually a bit too vague) and how did you get to the colour it is now? I know you said the dye, but is it a permanent dye or a wash out semi? It makes a difference to the level that her natural hair will be now.

Her hair is a very  dark brown natural but hair now has more turned a copper red. We use shop bought permanent dye in intense red colours.
Is it still a good method to use the dye an developer?  Does it work with any colour or is lorea hilift the best as it's also for dark hair. We've heard of majicontrast

If her hair is copper now, there's no need to use a high lift or bleach on it at all. Use a mixture of direct dyes (special effects is a great one) which will give you total control over the colour you get. You can get them on beeunique copper is the perfect base for bright red.

Using a high lift dye repeatedly, or shop bought permanent dyes, over already dyed hair is one of the worst things you can do to the hair. So no, using a dye with a developer repeatedly over the same hair is not a good idea. It gradually makes the hair more and more porous and eventually it won't be able to hold on to the dye at all.

Seriously, take it from someone who did super bright red for a while, and many others on this forum, going the route of direct dyes (dyes that require no developer) is infinitely better in the end if you don't want to end up having to cut off all her hair. You wouldn't use a bleach over all the hair each time you need to dye your hair, well, using high lift dyes are going to do the same amount of damage as that.

If you feel you must go the high lift dye route. Then ONLY dye the roots with the high lift each time you use it.

Here's a great thread about getting and having red hair http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php/topic,9658.0.html

Yes, I'm sure, I've seen it many times. But as I'm trying to say, it's the unhealthiest way, by far, of doing it. Honestly, we've had SO many people coming here after using high lift dyes and eventually frying their hair.

You asked for advice, I'm really giving the best advice I can. Direct dyes are completely non-damaging. High lift dyes and box dyes are both very damaging. You can never really repair damage and it will just get worse and worse each time you use these dyes over the same hair (and not just the roots).

If you don't want to take my advice, then sure. Use Majicontrast. It gives a lovely red. Buy it will fade and then you have to use it again over the same hair, so damaging it more and more. So each time you use it it will have a harder time holding the dye, so you have to dye it more often. It's a bad cycle./

No, not at all, I'm not bothered, I'm sorry if that's how I came across. It's just something we have time and time again because of YouTube. People think "without bleach" means better. It really doesn't. Often, when you go through the comments on the videos, someone will call them out for using the no bleach thing. Most of the time they know that it's as bad as bleaching and admit as much. They're using it for click bait to get more views. Honestly, it's the bane of our lives on this forum πŸ™‚

Yes, you can get Direct Dyes in the UK. I'm in the UK and use them all the time πŸ™‚ The best place I've found (they also run and own this forum) is Beeunique. The name should turn up as a link, but if it doesn't the link is in the bar at the top of the page. There's a lot of reds to choose from and the beauty of using these dyes is you can mix them to mix the perfect red. Have a look at those links I gave and even go down to the reds section of the "show off your hair" section and you'll see some of the colours people have mixed and the results they got.

Lastly, one thing I did forget to mention. You can use the high lift red dyes (like majicontrast) but ONLY on the roots. then you can use the direct dyes to top up the rest of the hair.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. πŸ™‚

Thank u so much.... from Ian gather it's best to use a hair dye remover first then apply the colour after . Would you recommend using the majicontrast on the roots any way and then  the beeunique direct dye after?
Thank u again

If the current colour is copper there is no need to remove it, the bright red will cover it.
Whether to use majicontrast or a regular red permanent dye depends on the amount of lift you need, ie how many shades lighter you need to go. Without a pic of the current colour it is impossible to recommend specific products
