This happened to my sister once but she had hair extensions.  She put a clarifying conditioner on her hair then balled it up on top of her head.  That's where it stayed because when she went to rinse it out she couldn't and had to get it cut off! Luckily most of it was the hair extensions and not much real hair.

A hairdresser will break a lot more hair. They won't have the patience to do it so it's not painful or doesn't break. They also can't feel how much it hurts. Think of a mother brushing their child's hair. But it's your choice.

I agree, a hairdresser will just do it a lot more painfully and with a lot more breakage.

You really need to grease up your head and gently tease it out.  And I mean really grease up, like you'll need a towel around your shoulders to catch the drips greased up.  The longer you leave it as it is, the worse it will get and you might end up with an undercut or a pixie at the end of it.

Fck. How do I do it? Do I start right at the end of the knot? I kind of pull at random bits randomly...

At the ends of the hair, the bottom, work from the very outside up and in very gradually.

It will take a long time (at least a couple of hours) and your arms will ache, so make sure to stop and shake them out every once in a while, or if you have someone you really trust to be gentle and slow with it, ask them to help.

Like a few people have said, start at the very tips of your hair with a wide tooth comb and work your way up.  When you have most of it out, switch to a fine tooth comb.

I think olive oil would be better than coconut oil for this job, as coconut oil can solidify at room temperature unless it's the middle of a heat wave, which would leave you with even more of a mess.  Olive oil will stay liquid and will help smooth over the hair that's trapped.

Every so often, as you're going along, get a bit more olive oil (or conditioner, or butter, or whatever you choose to use) on your fingertips and run it through the area to make sure you're coating the hairs as they come out of the tangle, which should make it easier to detangle and help stop the hairs from catching on each other again as you pull them out.

an update.

I found the pointy tip of a comb to be the best.
A LOT< A LOT< A LOT, of my hair has fallen out. Like literally I could make a really big ball out of it... I sobbed before I went to bed yesterday because of that πŸ™
It's not all done yet, but from a fishtail braid rat nest thingy it went to the type of hair those sturdy little funny cavemen dolls have.. don't know their name.
My hair texture is nearly identical to kinky hair.
Still couple more tangles at my scalp, don't have anymore time today to deal with them. Spent literally day and a half doing it..
Attachment included - I really got kinky hair you guys!
