Thanks Piscine. I've only bleached my undercut before so I don't mind if I fry that slightly, but this is the first time I've bleached my longer hair so I thought I'd play it safe. I think I'll give it a bleach bath in a few weeks' time.
I won't be swimming, I work offshore so the tap/shower water is sometimes a bit heavy on the chlorine.
Did you keep the hair you were bleaching warm? If you just let it dangle it probably got cold and stopped working. Especially if its getting cold where you are!

I was thinking that could have been the problem π the packet said not to cover it or apply heat (I was planning on wrapping it in tinfoil and tucking it under my jumper) so it was just laying against the plastic cape on my chest, and it was a bit chilly in my house yesterday.
I've used the same kit on my undercut before and got brilliant results, cos obviously scalp = warm.

I put a plastic shopping bag on my head with my hair in and tie the handles so it stays on. It's easy and keeps my hair dead warm. If it's a bit chilly I also wrap a towel round. (But it does look a little odd lol)

I've done that before too, when henna-ing my whole head or when doing my undercut π it's amazing how warm it gets!
I'm only doing a dip-dye now though so I was wary of unintentionally bleaching random bits.
Ah sorry I forgot it was a dip dye. Ignore me π

Sorry, I wasn't reading carefully! I understand about the water; we have awful awful chlorinated and mineral heavy water here. π
^ No worries π
I'm going to give my hair a light wash and a deep moisturising condition on sunday night (flying out on monday morning) so my hair will have minimum exposure to the water out there.
Still a little disappointed it didn't bleach as light as I was hoping for but I'm glad it's not fried. Condition-wise it feels ok, just a little dry, and I can work on that.
I'm not sure whether to use the after-treatment stuff from the bleach kit though? I think it's a conditioner, but is it likely to be choc full of cones? (XXL max blonde kit)
(edit) answering my own question here, I found the box and from the ingredients of the after-treatment nothing obviously coney is leaping out at me so I think I'll take it with me to use as conditioner while I'm away π
Really? I never use the conditioner because I just assumed it was full of cones. I might see if I have any of the packets lying around π
My friend dyed her hair red, it looks awesome. She did say it didn't have peroxide, but when I asked her if she had to mix the dye she said yes. I thought all dyes that needed a mix contained peroxide, is this correct?
Because she had her boyfriend dye the back and such and he missed quite a bit of hair, so she wants me to redo it. So I'm asking because then I know if I have to wait a month or not. π
I'd think the after dye conditioner would be full of cones too, hmm.
It's very, very likely it was peroxide, yes. Most people don't have a clue that there's peroxide in dye. Ask her how it smelt, that's likely to tell you!
If it was one without ammonia, I'm not sure how it would smell...
Thank you! I think it's the Olia one from Garnier or something. Because that says without ammonia. And she was certain it was a dye without something. Oh well, I'll wait a few weeks then. Thank you for the reply!
Probably. That seems to the be one people are going for at the moment.
Are Lush shampoo bars just fragranced SLS?

I thought so, yes. But I may be wrong.
