Hello, this is my first real post. I've been lurking for a bit and now I feel like a moron for never realizing how damaging it is to use the Wella toners (as directed) immediately after bleaching. I've been bleaching for years, started using the Wella toners a while back... I definitely noticed my hair felt like crap after, but I liked the color.
Anyway, I'm going to start mixing my own toners now, but I have half a bottle of T18 left. Is there any way (or best way) I can use it up without peroxide? Dump it in conditioner... Or just mix it with a much lower dose of developer?
As far ar I know it should be used with developer for it to work. As long as it's a developer, even 10 volume will work (I haven't come across any lower volume). I doubt mixing it with something else will have the same effect. As for diy toners, I think that's a good idea. My friend has been using some diy toners for ages (mixing with conditioners) and her hair is in a very good condition.
If I come across any other way to mix wella toner for it to work, I'll let you know. *cheers*
You have to use peroxide with oxidative dyes, otherwise the colour cannot develop and the dye stays clear. So the safest way is the lowest volume possible for the shortest time. The wella toners definitely work with 10 vol, but I have never tried it with anything lower. I would try with 7.5 and 5 vol on strand tests
I am really not a fan of them, they contain a lot of ammonia and are unnecessarily damaging, but the power of youtube has made them the magical solution to just about any hair colour issue lol.
Wella also make a range of non-oxidative dyes; Colour Fresh, that comes in several blonde shades
Awesome. Yes, I have seen the light... My hair is more fried than before I started using them, but I just kept rolling with it anyway.
Thanks!!
& I love your hair, Wicked Pixie.
Thank you, it is an old pic but I have actually just gone back to white. Always toned with just direct dyes to prevent damage.
