Hi guys, so I posted earlier about how fed up and down I was about my hair and a few weeks back I was considering a pixie cut but got put off by my mom reminding me how long it takes to grow out and my brothers remark of 'she's not getting it cut really short like a lesbo is she?'
Now not only did that put me off (went and had a tiny bit off and layers in and now after 2 weeks it's looks exactl the sale as before!) but it also really irritated me! Now the first time I had it all off, it was due to a hair disaster and the hairdresser didn't no what else to do so she chopped it off in no style whatsoever which probably didn't help! Funnily enough my dad loved it (he hates my hair choices normally). Not gonna lie I felt insecure to begin with but I rocked it after I dyed it pink 😉
What annoyed me though is why people assume your either a lesbian (annoyed me my brother used that term almost as a critism) but also that society sees you as less feminine and less attractive !
I'm really leaning towards having it all chopped off and going ice blonde just to start again and have a change and say a big F you to everyone (even my boss is narrow minded about hair!) . Plus it would save time!
What are your opinions? Should I go for the chop? Would you? Do you understand people's reasons for being critical to women with short hair?
I also hate that men are narrow minded about pixie cuts... What suddenly I'm less attractive with short hair? Still me, guys?! And yet these same men are oogling at miley cyrus?!
? Any opinions? Xxxx
I've actually had more men that I don't know compliment me on my hair since getting the chop recently than I have in donkey's years.
There's two things that could affect this. I've lost a lot of weight, so I'm back at the kind of curvy that a lot of men seem to like. Also, I think, and other people say, I look better with short hair as I have a small face and tons of hair.
But that goes to show men don't really hate short hair. At least, most don't.
The others can go to hell!
(And tell your brother, from me, to grow up and don't be so pathetic!)
I have had some incredibly short hair cuts in the past few years, and while some of my closed minded friends made lesbian comments about it I found that most girls respected me for having the confidence to do it. (although I feel more confident with short hair so that wasn't really true, they still thought I was brave.)
And yeah some guys will think you're less attractive because of it, but are those really the men whose opinion you care about? Any man that labels you as unattractive or a lesbian due to your hair cut is probably not someone you would be interested in anyway 🙂
Also I think you have a really pretty face and would look great with a pixie, so if you want to you should go for it 🙂
Do people seriously still see short hair on women as a sign of being a lesbian?! Of all my lesbian friends only one has really short hair, even lesbians can have whatever hair they prefer in the 21st century lol!
I think short hair can look incredible sexy and feminine. Think Michelle Williams, Jennifer Lawrence, Carey Mulligan, Halle Berry etc, all gorgeous, extremely feminine women who rock short hair.
It helps if you are pretty, as it is easier to hide flaws behind longer hair. (I call it the 'long blonde hair syndrome', you can put long blonde hair on anyone and they are automatically perceived as attractive even if they are actually plain or ordinary looking.)
So if you fancy a short cut, go for it. It sounds like you have hair that grows really quickly so you won't be stuck with it for long if you hate it.
If you see someone with a really nice short cut, go and ask them where they had it done.
Honestly, nowadays, I think pixie cuts show an extreme sense of style and trend. If the gal has already got some style (which I can tell you do!), I think a short cut says she's got a huge sense of confidence and sass and attitude!
Great answers guys 🙂
Janineb- haha I'll tell him when I next see him 🙂 your hair is amazing, it really suits you !!
Marthakins- thank you 🙂 yeah you're right, I suppose if my appeal to men lies solely on the length of my hair then clearly those men are shallow and not worth my time!! Confidence is definitely part of it, when I first had a pixie I was nervous but then I was like what the hell it's my hair my life if people don't like it then they can go be narrow minded elsewhere!
Wickedpixie- yep people still assume that I've had guys tell me not to chop all my hair off, long hair is prettier and I'm like well, my face is still the same so what's the big deal?! Rude I call it haha and your right! Jennifer Lawrence hair looks amazing and she's someone I didn't think would suit a pixie! Just goes to show doesn't it? Anyone can rock a pixie!
Alexia- haha I've always considered my style edgy I suppose because I always wear lace, leather and studs 😉 and yeah again, it's all about confidence and yh pixies are definitely in style at the minute!
I've always thought they make a women look more sophisticated and chic 🙂
Do you think length matters? Like is it best to have at least some length to it somewhere so you can play around with styles?
I love this girls hair and what she does with it!
I think you would totally rock a pixie cut! I can just picture an ice blonde pixie on you 🙂
Some men hate short hair, some love it, or they'll say they only like long hair but then oogle over some celebrity with short hair. Men can be pigs, but women can be too! Just like with stereotyping 'oh you have short hair, you must be a lesbian', same thing if you have rainbow hair people just automatically assume you're homosexual. I dyed a rainbow in my fringe, unknowingly the day before there was a vote on gay marriage where I live, so everywhere I went people were like, "Good for you!' "Yes, gay pride!' 'Are you going to the LGBT parade?' It's like, really? I just hate that people stereotype so much, it just shows me how much I don't like people, even if their intentions are good lol.
Really though, I think you would look freaking amazing with an ice cold pixie, you'll be rid of this plum for good, you'll have a blank slate, and I can picture you doing so many awesome fun styling with it, some messy spiking in some way like a longer faux hawk (like Pink) or a pompadour kinda look like Janelle Monae, throwing some bold streaks of color in, you could play with pastels, the options are endless 🙂 Screw what your brother thinks and other people's small minded stereotypes! I'd say now is a good of time as ever to do it
Edit:
Ha you types your response as I was typing mine lol. That is exactly what I picture on you, with some choppy asymmetrical length in the front to play around with, and she styles it exactly like I was talking about lol. I really think it would look so sexy, chic, fun and cool and would fit your style so well 🙂
I think you'd look great in a pixie.
Regarding what anyone else thinks about it--my personal viewpoint is it's my hair, my body. Who the hell is arrogant and disrespectful enough to think they can tell me what to do with my body? Anyone who is that arrogant and disrespectful is definitely someone I don't want around me!
I had my long hair cut off two weeks ago and have had nothing but positive reactions from people who know me, and just one comment from a stranger and that was positive - and about the colour. I couldn't give a flying fig if Joe Public thinks I'm a lesbian or not; nowt wrong with being gay.
I'm still not sure whether I like it :on me: or not but I didn't really have much choice about it because of the brain surgery, post-op hair loss and all that. But I am trying to rock it and meh, it grows back eventually!
Also, what Intemp says!
As long as you get a cut that suits your face then who cares how long it is?!
I've always had long hair and the idea of cutting it terrifies me, but I get really bad short hair envy all the time, espesh inverted bobs and pixies with that sort of side sweep/slightly longer at the front thing going on. I think it looks much more sophisticated and grown-up (@TabithaBlue I think your's looks ace and pretty classy with the new colour too).
Anyone who makes the assumption that you are A, a lesbian or B, that being a lesbian is a bad thing anyway, is clearly someone who's opinion is not worth worrying about. And brothers make stupid off the cuff comments all the time so I wouldn't worry about that - mine told me I'd probably be pretty if i wasn't fat the other day.. Of course I decided to take it as a compliment!
I think the same. I have a passionate hatred of people who judge me based on my hair, clothes, jewellery, or anything else about me. I am me. I am unique. If people don't like that in my view that's their problem not mine.
Go with whatever makes you happy. It's your hair / body - who gives a €¡®! what others think of it as long as you like it.
[steps off soapbox...! Lol!]
I am so pro pixie, I actually came here today after a loooooong while with 'normal' hair to get some pixie colour inspo!!! I agree that some people totally use long hair to make the most of themselves in a way and it can be seen as a risk but I LOVE having short hair. It is easier to wash, I am anticipating an easier root dye tonight and it doesn't moult or make you too hot in summer either!
I wore a long wig recently for a play and I was so fed up of it after a week! I don't think I will ever be long again! 😀 You need to look at what styles you like and take pics to a hairdresser and then ensure you are happy with their advice and recommendations before hand and you should be fine.
You guys are amazing =)
@katiesiepierski haha thank you 🙂 i totally agree, someones always gonna dislike something about you, so why the hell not just go for it 🙂 and yeah something along those lines that got some hair that i can play with!!
@Intemp definitely! i think its ridiculous that people are so arrogant enough to say, oh you'd look better with longer hair!
@Tabitha, i think because you were probably not mentally ready for short hair, itll take a while to grow on you, but im sure in time youll love it!!
@Katy im like that! when my hairs long i envy short hair when its short i want it long again!!
@Sonia YES! i get this all the time! People see me in my work clothes and looked shocked when i tell them what music i like, i wear my leathers and people call me a goth, i wear my band shirts and i get called emo... haha its like, why stereotype someone ??! Just because i like a particular style doesnt mean its defines me as a person! I like other things too!!
@Wrenoir awwh yay! im so fed up of my long hair its even giving me a rash on my back! gross! So im definitely leaning towards a pixie...ill book it in this week coming i think and keep you guys updated... 😉 I got a few reference pictures to go by, but i read somewhere telling your hairdresser what you dont want is sometimes better as it gives them more room to be creative! =)
Colourwise guys, im gonna inquire about the cost of having it cut and coloured at the same time, but if its rather pricey, id rather do it myself! In which case... tomorrow im putting a jo baz on my hair to take at least some old dye out...but, what then? Bleach it and then go cut it or wait and do it after, just cuz if i wait, and get my hair cut while its all random shades, wont it look weird?? Bleach first??
xxx
Pixie cuts are in right now (not that that should really affect your decision) but people seem to be loving them recently. I just cut my hair the shortest it has ever been and I love it! It took a bit of getting used to but I'm super happy with it. I was worried that I would get lesbian comments but I haven't. I mean people might be thinking it but no one has said anything. Not that I would care anyway. The only thing that matters is how you feel about it. I also have quick growing hair so I didn't really worry about not liking it because it will grow back.
