Permanent hair dye fading away completely very quickly

So naturally my hair is light brown, but I want it to be dark brown and last month I dyed it. I used Revlon Colorsilk 30, dark brown. Actually I had to do 2 rounds of dying because the first time it barely looked any different, I guess I didn't saturate my hair enough? I'm new at this, haha, that was the first time I ever dyed my hair. Anyway, after the 2nd time it was nice and dark.

I didn't wash my hair after dying, I just used conditioner. But the next day I started back on my normal routine which is shampoo & condition everyday. I use herbal essences. I never skip washing because my hair always sticks in random directions after sleeping and my bangs get a little greasy.

After about 2 weeks, the color was COMPLETELY gone. I mean my hair literally looked like it had never been dyed. I realize that even permanent dye does fade after awhile, and washing every day speeds up that process, but it was gone! Completely! After barely 2 weeks! It didn't stain my hair even the tiniest bit. I don't understand why that happened???

I just dyed my hair again about an hour ago. I used the same brand but a darker shade (20, brown black) so I was able to achieve the same shade with just one round of dye. Is there anything I can do to make the color last longer besides straight up just not washing my hair? I read that if you go a few days without washing right after you dye it, it makes the color last a bit longer. Is that true? Or perhaps if I use a different shampoo? Any advice is appreciated!

Permanent dyes aren't intended to stain hair (still, some do, but this one got the job right). They deposit dye molecules under the cuticle of the hair into the shaft. Unfortunately, by dying twice in a row, you've most likely damaged this cuticle meaning the dye falls out a lot quicker. The second time you dyed it, it will have been 'nice and dark' because the cuticle was raised too much, or even gone, allowing a lot of dye to slip in. However, as I said, the cuticle being damaged then let's it slip out very quickly too.

You could try conditioner only washing. This will help as it'll stop the cuticle being raised every time you wash. Also, start extending the washing. I know you said you wash every day because sleeping messes up your hair. Use a spray bottle instead on the area messed up. Dampen it down a bit and restyle. I've been doing that for donkey's years πŸ™‚ It'll also help with the grease. Over washing hair actually makes it more greasy.

Edit:  Janine beat me to it!

It appears that the original dye faded down to match your natural hair colour.  It can't have disappeared completely; permanent dyes do not work that way.  They bleach out your natural colour to deposit replacement colour molecules, and over time some of these molecules slip out of the hair, causing a fade.  Even black permanent dye can fade to a deep brown over time.  Dyes fade more quickly on damaged hair, which processing so much in such a short amount of time will have likely resulted in damage and a quicker than normal fade.

The second dark brown will probably fade down similarly.  For future reference, you really should only use a permanent dye once a month.  If you feel the colour fade is occurring too quickly, you can always top up with a true semi like Adore.  You can also put true semis in your conditioner to add a little colour every time you was (not the box semis; they are demis and should not be mixed with anything).
