Olaplex, protein and me!

Some of you know, I've not been wildly impressed with olaplex. It does seem to be helping the condition when I bleach the roots, but on the very damaged ends (too aggressive fading and too much heat styling after some really bad haircuts) it just wasn't making a difference. That probably does mean it was too far gone to be helped and while I accept that's quite possible, it never seemed as damaged as other people who said it made their hair amazing after one use.

Ive also always had to be very careful with protein. My hair goes brittle and breaks very quickly. I'd tried aphogee two step before and it was a nightmare after! However, I was out the other day, saw some in a shop and picked it up on a whim! No idea why, I just did. So it was some apprehension that I tried it later. Interestingly, for the first time ever, I found that it not only helped, but really helped.

So, for the last few months, I've been using olaplex on and off as a stand alone treatment. As I said before, I was finding it did very little but kept trying simply because i want it to work.

So, today I did another stand alone olaplex treatment. Finally, fiiiinally I actually have the kind of result others are talking about! It's almost like the two somehow worked together? The olaplex seemed to pave the way for the aphogee to work for me and not make my hair brittle and that in turn helped the Olapex work. Maybe? Not sure. I don't care though, I've got the results I was after, and was feeling very unlucky because I couldn't get them!

Wicked pixie, I know you've  been less than impressed too, maybe you could try using protein? It might be a fluke, it might be in my head, not sure... But worth a try? Unless you do use protein a lot anyway and I'm clutching at straws lol

Interesting!
No, i don't use a lot of protein, not because it makes my hair brittle, but because it does nothing so i don't think I need it.
Definitely worth a go though.

Yeah, it might do nothing, but it would be nice if it worked!

I do actually have that, 'it's almost back to normal' feeling. Mind you, it's been over 25 years without feeling the natural, unprocessed texture of my hair, so who knows πŸ˜‰

Edit to add - also, the curl structure is tighter than ever, and so far, back in the last couple of inches. The ends have been difficult to make curl up naturally for a long time. If this extra curlyness is welcomed... I'm not sure yet!
