Hi all, I know there have been many olaplex threads already but I have recently seen olaplex on amazon so I was wondering if there was a way to tell if this is legit or not.
Also, does anyone know how much costs if you buy it directly from olaplex? I'm wondering if they are overcharging for this one.
I was considering signing up to the official olaplex website and making up a company and all that, but they now ask for a website and Facebook page etc.
I have also emailed star qualities asking if they would make it available for hairdressing students. I emailed twice many months ago but never got any replies. I emailed again a couple of days ago and am waiting for them to get back to me.
If anyone knows anywhere else to get it without it being hugely overcharged I would love to know.
I think overcharged depends on your idea of what overcharging is. The very basic rule of thumb is to take the cost of a product to yourself and then double it. Some places it will be more, some less. I don't know the base cost of Olaplex to hairdressers, but this does seem to be a very common price for sellers everywhere I've seen it.
I've seen people claim a lot of the ones sold online are fake or watered down. Maybe that's true. I can say that the one I bought, when it was still quite new, was fully sealed and had all the correct paperwork and on good quality paper (not photocopied or anything like that, properly printed) so I'm certain mine was legit.
Now, if you were asking if the whole thing is legit, I might have another answer. I do believe the science is legit, but if it really does what the theory says, I'm still in doubt. There's a lot of anecdotal evidence, but it seems to stop there. I feel like it might have helped my hair, but no where near as well as is claimed and not enough to ever pay the amount it costs again (even buying from a hairdresser who offered to get it for me).
Oh yeah sorry I meant the if this product is the real olaplex.
I've actually used it a few times and definitely agree that it's not the complete miracle product people make it put to be. I've heard so many "you can bleach your hair with 0 damage" kind of claims but that's definitely not true. I found it helped with the strength of my hair but that it doesn't do anything for moisture. But even so I'd still like to use protein treatments as well as olaplex.
I was also wondering if it's overcharged compared to how much they charge to salons. If the price is similar and the amazon link is the real thing then I will probably buy it. But it's just determining whether it's real or not.
Yeah, sorry, I knew you meant all that. Sorry if it wasn't clear.
What I was saying about the price is, yes, I'm sure in effect it's over priced by charge salons get. But that's because they aren't likely to be getting it wholesale. The only place getting that is star qualities I assume in the UK, so they'll be buying it from either a distributor in the US or star qualities and the mark up is on that.
I'm pretty sure it is legit though. It think it's still too soon, and not quite a big enough market yet, for fakes to be out there, personally. I haven't seen anyone post proof that what they got was fake yet. It might be out there, so I hold off saying for sure if it's fully legit!
That is the kit i have, it has a pretty minimal mark up on it. Plus I had to pay a customs charge as mine came from America, so good value IMO.
Yeah, that's the other thing I figured. Whoever is supplying it will have had to pay customs on it. So they'll pass that cost on.
