need opinions on coloring a friends hair red

Kat Von D's hair in the picture is my end goal on my friends hair tomorrow. I purchased La Riche Tulip, and Rubine to combine and create a color that she wanted. All her hair is virgin, dark brown, and I wanted some opinions on the lightening process. I originally planned on doing a bleach cocktail, since her hair is virgin it should lift well, and to get that red it won't need to be platinum, but more red/orange. Do you think this will give me enough lift in one go, or should I just do a full lightener application?

Any input would be great, thanks!

I would aim for an even orange with the bleach. I would definitely bleach bath rather than a full bleach, no need to risk any damage.
Tulip and Rubine are both more pink/purple than that red, so the orange tones should help to create a deep red like in the pic

I think that sounds great πŸ™‚ I would bleach bath to an orange, be sure to leave the root area for last because it will lift a lot more/faster because of the heat from the scalp. I would test strand a couple pieces first to see how it lightens, you don't want to lighten it too much, you'll need those orange tones to make it look more red like this. I would test strand a 20 vol bleach bath and a 30 vol bleach bath (or just buy 30 for both and mix different dilutions so you don't have to buy 20 and 30) so you know the timing for it to get to the color you need it to be. That way, like if her hair is long, you could start with an even lower vol in the first sections, or do half a head at a time if it's going to take you longer to apply it, so the first sections don't get lighter than you want.

Say it ends up looking too pinky though, just get a red semi like Intense Red by Adore maybe or MP Vampire Red, and use it very diluted over it to work as a sort of toner to make it more red looking.

Don't use either of those reds to tone pink out of a red, because they're pink based.  Use something like Directions Flame or MP Infra Red.

All of the other advice is spot on--take it to no lighter than a medium ginger for a base, since both of the reds you picked are pink based.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! Ended up doing a 20vol bleach cocktail all over and it lifted perfectly! As you suspected the colors were very pink toned, but she ended up loving it more then the deep red.

Depending on if her job lets here get away with this, we're planning on leaving it be, if it needs to be a deeper red, we're going to look into the semis suggested. Thanks again everyone! πŸ™‚
