So, I'm a big dumb dumb. My hair was finally looking pretty good, but I completely screwed it up again. I had highlights, but the rest of my hair was sort of orange from dyeing it light brown and dark blonde (last time was about two months ago). So, I tried the manic panic toner and ended up with very blue highlights. I went to my stylist and she soap capped it. The blue bits turned mint green. So, then she toned it and I basically had orangeish hair with olive green highlights. Last night, I decided to try the vitamin C thing (should have done this before seeing her, I wasted my money!) and it got all of the blue/green out!! However, my hair's pretty orange now (from the soap cap?). I tried using blue conditioner this morning and it turn my highlights blue again. I got most of it to come out with clarifying shampoo, but now I don't know what to do. I'm so sick of having orange hair. :/ It's probably a level 7 right now.
I really need help. I don't know what to do. I'm fine with the lightness it's at, it's just a terrible color tone, but I can't seem to tone it because the highlights just grab it all. I'm planning on going to a beauty supply store tonight, but I have no idea what to get. Do I try to go lighter? Darker to cover it?
In order to tone, you need to find the exact opposite shade on the colour wheel. You can find what this shade is by taking a picture of your hair and turning it in to a negative with a photo editing programme. You can then mix an exact match with various semi shades and conditioner.
You've done a lot of very drying treatments just recently, so I wouldn't aim lighter just right now. Are you ultimately going for a natural shade or an unnatural one?
Thanks for the reply! My goal (that would have been good to include ha) is to get back to my natural color, which is a dirty blonde. The darkness of my hair is about right, but the tone is all wrong. It's so warm.
The problem with toning seems to be that most of my hair is orange, but other parts of it are blue right now (mostly gone, but still there a bit). If I try to tone the orange, the highlights are going to become blue again.
If the majority of your hair is light enough I would try to dye the highlights a similar shade of orange, then you can tone the whole lot.
Thanks for that idea Wicked Pixie! I may try that! I was also considering trying filler. Would it work for something like this?
