More orange after toning

I feel like such a cliché with an orange hair story but here we go.

I naturally have dark brown hair. Over the last month or so I lightened it a bit with L'Oreal Casting Sunkiss Jelly. It looked fine but a bit brassy, so I wanted to neutralise some of that orange.

I'd read good experiences with Wella T14, even on darker hair, so I got that and a 20 vol developer. I did everything as per the instructions, and now my hair is lighter and more orange than before, both of which I wasn't going for.

Now I'm stuck with two questions:
1. Why has this happened? Did the developer further lighten my hair, revealing more orange, counteracting the toner? Was it something else?
2. More importantly, what do I do? Is there any way to fix this with what I've already got? Like going again but with more toner relative to developer or something?  I'm not in the best financial situation ever, so I'd like to avoid spending more than I need to.

Any help welcome!

Your hair was way too dark for the wella toner to work. The peroxide in it lightened your hair more, which it always does, but it's not made tot one orange and so it just ended up making your hair more orange. It's just intended to tone yellow, maybe a very light orange, but that's not its job. It's made to take yellow hair to a more cool ashy tone. What you need is a blue toner.

Also, those sun kissed type of gradual lighteners are pretty much the worst way of lightening hair I'm afraid. You'd be better off doing very gental bleach baths, much more controllable and less damaging in the end.

Hmm must've misremembered what I read about the toner, wishful thinking I guess.

Do you have advice on what to do next? I've been looking at L'Oreal Dia Richesse, but I'm kind of shooting in the dark. I'm being somewhat guided by what I can get by one-day delivery on my Amazon Prime trial, so maybe I can sort myself out before Tuesday...

In case it makes a difference, my hair doesn't feel very damaged, but then again, I'm obviously far from an expert.

What is your ultimate aim? Blonde? Just lighter? Ash or warm toned? Can you provide a photo of what you're after?

Haha what a great question, I don't even know how I want it to end up exactly. At the moment I'm mainly annoyed that the yellow/orange looks silly next to the parts of my hair that are still dark, I feel kind of like the Batman logo. So I guess what I want is for the lighter parts of my hair to be a way cooler neutral light brown/dark blonde?
