Mixing two colors to get a rich chocolate brown?

I have naturally ashy, medium-brown hair. I haven't colored my hair since I highlighted it last year, and it's currently a bad mix of mousy and brassy! I've been trying to grow it back to my natural color, but it always fades back to brassy and I just can't stand how it looks anymore.

I want to go for a nice chocolate brown, so I bought two shades of Wella Color Charm: natural dark brown and cinnamon brown (brown-violet). I was planning on mixing them 1:1 but now I'm kind of scared that the violet tone might be too much. Should I add more of the dark brown shade? I want something more on the natural side but still rich.
