Match hair with clothes?

Hey everyone! Sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum, I'm not really sure where to put it! πŸ™‚

I was wondering if you try to match your clothes with the current hair colour you have? I know I used to do it with my pink hair (blue-ish outfit) and with my red hair (green outfit), and I can't wait to find good combos for my upcoming dark green hair! πŸ˜€

So..

1. Do you match your hair, and if so, what colours?

2. What colours would you match with dark green (forest-emerald-ish) hair? I'm thinking maybe plum? πŸ™‚

3. Do you think there are any big no-nos when it comes to matching hair and outfits?

*thx*

I used to wear a lot of red shades when I had dark green hair. It made me think of winter and Christmas!

That sounds nice Glitterpix! πŸ™‚

Here's some really old examples of me wearing blue with both pink and red hair. Sorry for the blobs of colour but there was some weird facial expressions and cleavages going on here haha!

I used to find myself getting matchy with my hair and clothes, or contrasty. But then I started changing the colour so often. It was impossible!

I wore loads of green when I had red hair, then I wore lots of brown, orange and gold when I had ginger hair.

I think dark green hair would look good with plum (most purples actually), mustard/ gold, maybe burgundy and copper depending on the shade, I think any rich velvety autumn colours.

I'm currently dark green and I'm wearing today a green shirt. It's lighter and more of a muted colour, but still. I don't change my wardrobe depending on my hair colour, but I don't wear any really bright colours to begin with. I have green, blue, black, brown, orange, earthy tones, pink, but no neon versions. I've never really had the problem of my hair not matching my clothes, well, as far as I was concerned. And my favourite thing in the world is a rainbow, usually paired with a grey or black. πŸ˜€

Anyway, I was trying to say I don't mind most pairings of colour myself. Even different shades of pink or red can look ace. I myself avoid red and green unless it's around christmas time, haha. But most reds I have and the green in my hair both don't look very christmassy anyway.

Long story short : wear whatever you like! πŸ™‚ If you like how it looks, it will look good. ^^

Janineb, I can imagine it was hard to keep up with the matching! Haha πŸ˜€

Lauralei13, autumn colours in general do sound great with green πŸ™‚

Rij, yes you're totally right. I just think it can be fun to play around with colours πŸ˜€ It's nice to have muted clothes too, to bring out the colours in the hair, just like you! πŸ™‚

I like the idea of matching up colors with your current hair color. With the emerald green I think the autumn colors will look awesome! I'm blonde right now, so I don't think there is a lot to match or contrast with that, but I do avoid a couple of colors, just so that I don't bring out any weird tones in my hair. For me I don't wear bright yellows or oranges too much because I think sometimes it can make my hair seem that color even though I'm a platinum blonde currently. I more so pick colors that go with my skin tone rather than my hair, I find peaches wash me out so I guess its all up to preference.

But anyways when I was thinking about emerald green hair I was thinking of peacock feathers, so maybe you could do an outfit based around colors in peacock feathers, it would be gorgeous!

Emmer1321: I thought I was crazy when I wore yellow and my blonde hair looked more yellow too! lol. Peacock feathers sounds like a lovely idea!! πŸ˜€

I saw this on tumblr and I thought it was really nice to match like this too! πŸ™‚

When I had teal hair I wore a lot of peacock/jewel toned colours with black. Lots of blue, turquoise, greens and purples. It was the first time in my life I actually bought blue clothes, which is funny as I wear a lot of blue now.
Years ago I mostly had black hair with red or pink, and my clothes were almost exclusively black and red.
Nowadays my hair is usually a cool shade of pastel, so I tend to avoid bright and warm colours. I do wear more saturated versions of the colours I have in my hair, but warm colours totally clash.

Yea it is definitely trial and error, but its a good excuse to go out and shop! Just grab a shirt of every color and try on the rainbow then you'll know what colors look good with your hair and what colors to avoid.

Wicked pixie, It's so nice that you "discovered" blue clothes just because of your hair colour πŸ˜€

Emmer1321, I would agree that any reason to go shopping is a good reason lol. And I mean, it's free to just try on clothes right? πŸ˜‰

Its ridiculous really, I have avoided blue my whole life which I think has something to do with Dennis the Menace from when I was tiny lol. (Walter the softy wore blue)
After I had teal hair i went blue, which was actually one of my all time favourites, (kept it for a year) but a colour I never thought I would try

I think I go for contrasty colours without thinking. I had a bit of a shock where I'd had purple for years and switched to dark green. All my khaki clothes I'd bought over that time clashed horribly, but all these pinky/purple/burgundy things I'd been neglecting for ages suddenly looked fantastic.
