I was rummaging through the hair products at my local drugstore the other day, and I noticed L'Oreal had a new line: the Full Fiber range. Thinking that it would probably be loaded with sillicones, I started reading the ingredient list - but I couldn't find any? Maybe they use a sneaky cone that doesn't end in -cone or -xane?
I didn't buy them (I am not sure how I feel about L'Oreal in regards to being cruelty-free or not, and I still have a few bottles of the supercheap sillicone-free conditioner I always use) but I can imagine other people liking this as it's so readily available.

I just looked up triethoxysilane and I think it's a silicone compound. What that means I don't know!

It's an amniosilane actually. I can't really find anything about the use of aminopropyl triethoxysilane in beauty products. Most sites just mention it's toxic and fumes can damage mucous membranes.

Ah, ok, I couldn't see much, but I had a really super quick look. Looks from that page that it's got similar properties to silicone.

I'm impressed! So there are other chemical compounds just like silicones? Are they something we should pay attention to (when were cone-free)?

I really don't know anything about aminosilanes and I couldn't find any info about them in hair products, most sites mentioned it in glass making lol. I don't really know if they'll cause buildup like silicones or really what they will do at all. From the sounds of it there may be some build up as aminosilanes are "adhesion promoters" and "improve chemical bonding". For all I know it may just improve how the other ingredients stick to the hair.
There are "silicone replacement" products, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine is an example of this. They are supposed to smooth hair like a silicone with out building up as badly/ rinsing out easier. Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine is a good ingredient to look for if you are 'cone-free and want to reduce frizz with out using natural oils.

I read about the glass-making-thing too. That makes me wary of using it, though.
