I don't have chances of buying direct dyes where I live, like Manic Panic, or other brands you all mention most unfortunetly  :-[ I'm from Europe, it'd cost a bit...

Most of the time just on the roots, but s couple of times I've done roots first and then spread the dye to my ends when the color has faded. And no, the max volume I've used was a 30vol. Not sure if it's because I had red hair prior, but it has a warm tone to it... well it is violet though, not purple as I want right now...

People in Europe can buy from Beeunique http://www.beeunique.co.uk/ because it's based in the UK. Yes, the shipping will be more, but not a huge amount more. This is the main way I get most of my dye because I can't get them in the shops most of the time either 🙂

I'm glad to hear you don't use 40vol. I'm horrified they seem to suggest that, even if it's the one with oils they do. But, if you're going to use it on already dyed hair, at least drop down to 10vol or less. Each time you use peroxide on your hair you'll be causing more damage which will mean that it fades faster. Really, you would be far better off spending a bit extra and getting dye that won't cause damage. In the long run it's cheaper. You can then do your roots with the Ingora (though in my opinion bleach is better as you can see what you're working with) then top up with the direct dye rather than running the Ingora through.

Thank you so much for your help and the useful information 😁😁😁 i've noticed it has indeed been fading faster, time to give it a break and a change to direct dye.

Just two questions....if i may bother you a bit more... 😐, which brand do you find lasts longer? And a bottle/tube of dye can be used for more than one application? (My hair length is just below the ears, quite short).

I like Special Effects if I want it to last a long time. It's highly pigmented, to the point that a bottle will last longer because you need to dilute it with conditioner to prevent rub off on clothes, skin and bedding.

It's hard to predict how much you will use. My hair is only a little longer than yours, but I have to use a full bottle of dye if I'm not diluting it and doing it full strength colour. But, I have very thick hair that really soaks up dye. Most people use a lot less than me.

The other advantage of using direct dyes is the ease that you can mix up colours. It's easy to see in the bowl what colour it's going to turn out. You need to take into account the colour that is already on the hair, but it still easier than guessing with what's going on with the Ingora type dyes!

I also like Special Effects, and just to add to what Janine said about the amount you will need being different for everyone I used to get 3 applications from a bottle on hair that varied between chin length and shoulder length so it really can vary quite a lot! (you can keep the remaining dye in the bottle and use it again though, it's not like a box dye where you have to throw away what you don't use)
