I think my hair is falling out

I've been noticing it for about a month now - when I run my hands through my hair strands and strands and stands of it are coming out. Far more than it used to. My husband has checked and he says he can't see it any thinner and there's no bald patches but I'm so worried about it. Does hair go through cycles when you suddenly shed a lot more? It's not just coming out around my healing operation bit, it's all over. And it's not me noticing more switch longer hair as I've had quite a drastic haircut recently.

Intestngly though, having tested just now, it doesn't seem to be coming out of my undercut; if I pull on that nothing comes out. Maybe I am being paranoid? But I'm worried about stress alopecia in after every I've been through in the last few months. My sister suffered with it once through stressful period.

Reassure me!

you hair does have cycles. I find I shed more certain months of the year and sometimes I panic as well until I remember its ok, it will stop. If you are very worried about it you can get your blood tested or take some vitamins to strengthen it. Just remember that stress can make hair fall out too so try not to worry about it.

My hair definitely comes out by the handful at certain times of the year; it's always a bit unnerving but I have to remind myself it's normal. Afterward I get a growth period and get all sorts of annoying short hairs poking out. UGH can't win.

Usually that kind of shedding occur 3-4 months after a traumatic event and can last up to 6 months, though normally less.
I stress shed a third of my hair over a year ago and again last year, both around the same time + it was my usual shedding cycle time so it looked like everytime I move my hair I lose more of it.

Braiding it helped to avoid shedding all over the place, though whenever I would undo the braid I'd freak out a bit lol.

The good news is that everything grew back and my hair is back to its original thickness, I hope yours is temporary as well, and better yet - hope its just a periodic shedding!

That link sounds just like what you described. If you've already had bloodwork done + don't think it's an effect from any medication you may be taking, then that's probably it. I have went through this 2 times + it scared the heck out of me! Just try not to stress about it because it could just add fuel to the fire

I think - *think* - that it's starting to slow down. This is very grim but it was the only way I could compare the loss - for the last 4 weeks I've been saving all the hair that's come out in the shower and washed my hair on the same day every week. I've rolled the hair up into a little ball as tightly as I can and compared the size of them and yay! This week's ball is a lot smaller than the previous ones. AND I left it two days longer before I washed it this week (mainly because I was scared!)

Yeah I know, saving your hair is foul and dirty and yuk but I couldn't think how else to compare! Please don't shun me!

Yay I'm glad it's slowed down for you πŸ™‚
You may as well save the hair for strand tests since you've got it already! lol that's what I do, I don't care if it sounds gross either haha

It's definitely stopping πŸ˜€ Today's hair wash produced about the same amount of shed hairs that I used to get pre-op. w00t!
