Last week I bleached my hair and it went orange, as I knew it would. I had gone to Sally's to get a dye to put on afterwards and explained that my hair pulls orange and that I wanted to achieve a medium auburn. What was suggested was ION Intense Red Blonde....OMG!!!! My hair turned out fire engine RED!!! To state that I disliked it is an understatement!!
I then applied a brown/blonde shade onto my BRIGHT red hair and it toned it down a bit. The color is now a very fake looking red.
My question is this....What hair color should I apply over my current color to get the medium auburn that I was originally going for? Should I remove this current color, which will go back to the orange and then apply...?
*boo*
First of all, were the dyes you used permanent?
A picture of the color would help with advice but my suggestion would be to use a color remover and then go from there.
The One n Only Argan 4R over orange should look gorgeous. I'm not sure what your natural level is nor have a photo of the auburn you wish to achieve however. Loreal Hicolor has some beautiful auburn colors but I have personally only used the orange, magenta, red, red Hot, sizzling copper, intense reds. I love the argan colors too & they have formulas on their page. Adore has some beautiful semi colors that are natural looking.
Yeah, as previously mentioned, get a colour remover, to remove all the hair dyes and get a base colour, and then find a semi perm auburn hair dye that you like, and voila 😀
Thank you for the replies!!!!
Both colors were permanent......I wish I had a camera to take pix of the color my hair is now! The color I would love to achieve is/was a rich medium auburn!!.....my natural hair color is a dark/medium brown with red undertones.
crowcrow.....which color remover do you suggest? After I bleach my hair, it is orange. Would this be my base color? If I applied a medium auburn on top of the orange, would it go back to the Rhianna red I had before?
I'm gonna see if I can get someone to take pictures of my hair color, as it is now, and will post them. Although the brown/blonde toned down the Rhianna red that my hair was, the color now looks so fake!!!
I'll try to get some pictures up, ASAP!!!
*thx*
Hello again:
I'm not sure whether you can see the color of my hair in my profile pic but, it is a dark to medium auburn and this is the color I would love to have my hair!!!

I used One n Only 3RV and got a gorgeous color with a hint of red but mostly your color in the photo. A strand test is best. If that doesn't work you can use Color oops to remove hair color you put on previously and try again.
