Hey, I'm new sorry.
I really need some advice, I'm so sad about my hair, it's a state. Naturally it's very dark blonde and for years now I've been bleaching it. I bleached it really badly in my teens and kept it up til now as I hated when my roots showed.
The ends were very dry, damaged and split so I recently had a pixie cut. I did like it but I don't feel as confident so I want to grow it out. The problem is my hair looks really split all over, not just the ends. There are little bits flicking up all over my head and when the light highlights them it looks awful. I've tried masks and coconut oil but it doesn't do anything noticeable. I want to buy extensions, the ones with the thin wire that sits on your head. But It will look so obvious with my damaged hair, also the colour in my hair fades in the wash and I guess dye wouldn't fade the same way in extensions. My hair is super thin, in quantity and thickness so I'm not even sure if I could hide them.
I'm stopping with the bleach and I just use light ash blonde box dyes now, problem is my bleached ends become silver and my natural roots go gingery. It doesn't look good and It makes me just want to go and bleach it, I'm not sure how to blend it in.
I don't want to sound really dramatic but I feel like it's ruining my life, whenever I'm out I just notice how nice everyone's hair is and how good my life would be if I had that.
Thank you to anyone who can offer me advice, I might upload some photos. Thank you!!
Ok, firstly, I understand that you are very upset about this, but I think you need to be more objective. Your life won't be any better with healthy hair, how could it? It's not going to make any real difference in the quality of your life. I know hair is important to self esteem, I get that, I'm self conscious when I feel my hair is bad, but you need to stop worrying about it so much. If you don't, you're just going to continually keep making bad, knee jerk decisions that continue to damage your hair,
Right, to the meat of the matter.
I would guess your hair is probably a little too short for extensions. Especially halo type ones.
Blonde dyes damage. They damage really badly. By using them all over your hair each time you're wrecking it further. You might as well be bleaching. Sometimes it might feel better, but that's because they use silicones which mask the damage for a while.
So, let's go back to bleaching, your can have light, very long hair with bleaching and it can still be in relatively good condition. When your were bleaching, what did you use? Did you just do your roots or did you go all over each time? It's more about understanding what you're doing and then taking measures to help prevent the damage. We can help there π
Even if you want to keep to a slightly darker blonde, there are toners you can use.
Thank you for your reply! I was a bit stressed about it yesterday, I've just moved into a shared uni house and everyone has ridiculously perfect hair down to their waists. I've had to have a lot of my fringe cut as it was the most damaged and it isn't very flattering.
A year ago I used a box dye which gave my hair an odd darker colour, I was about to go on a trip and I wanted it to look okay so I stuck bleach on it about 3 times in a row. On dry hair and all over, not just roots.. This really messed it up of course, since then I had been using bleach mixed with conditioner on hair covered in coconut oil and just on the roots. I think this stopped it from getting worse but the damage was already there.
When I was still doing bleach washes on the roots, I always use a box dye to tone it and make it look more natural and ashy. I've tried Wella toners before and I really like them, are they any less bad? I go for the box dyes out of convenience and for the price I guess.
Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it. I looove the hair in your display photo. ((:
Thank you! Sadly I ended up with an horrendous hair cut about 6 weeks ago and had to go back to a pixie cut, so I no longer have that hair π
Anything that you mix with peroxide is damaging. Toners with lower peroxide (what level peroxide are you using?) is better, but never as good as a direct dye mixed with conditioner. In the long run this will be far cheaper as well. What shade do you actually want. Can you post a photo?
Also, what bleach powder were you using originally. This can have a very big difference on the outcome and damage to your hair. A good powder saves money in the end. Using a box dye to tone AFTER a bleach is probably about the worst thing you could ever do, sorry! Unless it was a semi with peroxide, in which case, it's still pretty bad, but not the worst thing ever lol
