I need help achieving a black/blue color

Hello,

I am hoping to get a beautiful black hair color that has plenty of rich blue dimensions to it. I do not want to bleach my hair lighter, but I do have dark brown hair. I am wondering what the best way to do that is?

I'm thinking I will mix the following together:

Ion Sensitive Scalp 10 Volume Creme Developer
Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Hair Color Sky Blue
Ion Color Brilliance Master Colorist Series Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color Midnight Blue Black
Special Effects SFX Hair Color Hair Dye Electric Blue

Should I just mix an equal part of each? Also, how long should I keep the color on my hair? I am hoping to achieve the hair color of the pictures I attached.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

You can get that colour on dark hair with a direct dye in blue black, Adores blue black is excellent

Just adding that you can't mix true semi-permanent dyes like Special Effects or Ion Brilliance Brights with developer; it alters or destroys the pigment in the dye. True semi-permanent dyes are direct dyes - they are ready to use and don't alter the hair structure or go through any chemical reaction when coloring the hair.

So I shouldn't add sfx electric blue to regular black/blue hair dye? I'm just looking for a way to get some extra oomph of blue in the black color. Should I dye it that blue/black color and then immediately dye it all over blue?

Yes you can dye permanent black and then put the blue over, or just use a blue black direct dye

I always get confused with the Ion dyes as there are some which require peroxide and some that do not but upon googling the Ion Color Brilliance semi permanent brights , the Sallys page says that they should be used on pre-lightened hair. This means that the blue dye should not be mixed with the cream developer.

The black is a demi so it requires the developer but neither of the blues should be used at the same time.

you are better off using adore blue black.

Should I do all over SFX Electric Blue, then dye it ion blue black with developer and then do one last SFX Electric Blue coat on top?

No, there's no point to doing the first round of blue if you do it that way; the developer from the demi-permanent dye will ruin it. If you insist on using oxidative dye, I'd suggest dyeing it like a level 5 ash brown and then topping it with the Electric Blue. If you use the Ion Blue Black demi and then blue the blue will be barely visible. If you are OK with that then go ahead and use the Ion Blue Black instead. I agree with the others that Adore Blue Black is the best choice, especially if you ever want to change the color. You could even try just the Electric Blue over your current color and see if the result is satisfactory.
