I dunno how to help my hair get in better condition

Hello,

I am having a serious argument with my hair right now! I have been trying to grow it and so have been as nice as possible to it, trims when I notice split ends, hardly any heat styling, no bleach in a long long time, etc. I noticed a couple weeks ago that after shampooing my hair felt like chewing gum and I did the stand test thing and it is stretchy too so I figured maybe it could be lacking protein. Today I found a recipe online for a nice hair mask using banana, avocado and oil so I used that and left it on for a while, I washed it out with a gentle shampoo and used my normal conditioner and it feel just as bad if not worse than before and it still stretchy. I don't understand why it is like this in the first place since I haven't done anything to damage it but I am worried that it is doomed to be chopped off. Does anyone have any advice on what to try next or do you think it is beyond salvation? Is i just my hair being awkward or does it sound like I have done something wrong?

Thanks

Has the hair that feels bad been bleached at any time?

I'd try something like Kpak reconstructor or Aphogee two step. I'm not really convinced home made protein masks do anything than condition the hair.

Have you been to a trichologist? Or have you moved recently? I feel that weather affects my hair. Everytime I go somewhere humid it just dries up. Best bet would be to have your hair examined though.

Oh, I forgot to say, some stretch is normal. In fact it's important. It's if it's stretching and not bouncing back or breaking that you have a real issue.

Thank you so much for your advice JanineB. I have ordered some Kpak so hopefully that will help. Good to know that a bit of stretch is normal too. It has not been bleached since a while before I noticed the rubbery feeling. Waterlily, I don't think it's bad enough to justify the cost of that and I've not moved but it is possible the weather has had an effect.
I will have a go with the kpak and keep being nice to my hair and see how it goes.

I understood that πŸ™‚ but it had been bleached in the past? The bits that are feeling bad? Damage can suddenly show up a long time after it's been bleached.

Oh sorry I misunderstood what you said haha. Yes I have used bleach in the past and that was all over, I did dilute it and only left it on the shortest time but maybe my hair just reacted badly to it? I didn't know it could take time for the damage to show.
