How to get ombre red hair like this picture?

I can go to a salon, but they'd charge over 100 which is ridiculous. So I was thinking I'll dye my hair the darker red color that's on the top, and go to a cheap salon for them to do the dip dye.

So my question is, what hair dye should I use for the darker red part on top? If you could suggest a good brand and what shade of hair dye that would be so helpful. My natural hair is black, and it's dyed to golden brown

I think you'd be better off doing it in one go.

I would use a colour remover on the ends to remove some of the brown dye. That will leave you with a paler colour than the dyed hair. It's probable then that you'd need to do a quick bleach bath to lighten it a little bit further. I'd do both using this tutorial http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=9616.0 You wouldn't need to take it very pale.

Then use a red veggie dye, probably an Adore one, over the whole lot.. I can't see the photo too well at the moment so I'm not sure which colour would be best. This method would give you a lovely seamless red, darker at the top over the brown and lighter and brighter at the bottom, with each colour blending and toning perfectly.

Whatever you do, DON'T go to a cheap salon to have any of it done.
