how often can you dye dreadlocks?

For those of you with dreads/locs, how often do you change dye colors? I know veggie dyes are safe to use as much as you like.. but I'm curious on how much time other "dreadheads" go between changing hair colors. Or even touching up roots with bleach! Thanks! ;D

I dye roughly every three or four months, I also sleep in my dye.  I've not bleached my hair since before christmas, I tend to bleach every couple of months if colouring regularly though. I'd say every other year I tend to leave my regrowth for the better part of a year or more to give my hair a real break.
It is possible to keep up with your roots as long as you look after your hair well, I use kpak and deep condition regularly. I also conditioner only wash which is incidentally good for keeping colour. My dreads are very established though, co washing isn't advisable for new dreads.

I like to deep clean my hair after bleaching to make sure I have removed every trace. πŸ™‚

Thank you πŸ˜€ Question, what do you use to deep condition, and how often? My locs are edging towards 4 years so they stand up well after being conditioned. Just very concerned on over conditioning  πŸ™

My hair is quite processed so haven't managed to over condition yet, I use coconut oil, Fructis Repair and Shine is nice left in overnight, that is my current favourite.
Do as you are happy with, if your hair feels unhappy switch it up a bit. I do find that my hair feels much much better after cutting out sulphates and silicones for the most part though.

Thank you for advice! I'll check out that Fructis product, what type of conditioner is that? The Fructis website doesn't have detailed information on it..

I just purchased a new light protein conditioner to throw into the regiem. Hopefully my hair likes it. My roots drive me nuts but I'm trying to just not pay attention to them. One day they're okay and the next.. blech. >.<

I use this one, and Wilkinson's own brand conditioner to do the 'washing' with, but any light conditioner without silicones is good for this.

Check the ingredients on the Fructis as they can vary from country to country though πŸ™‚
Haha I hope this does not sound weird but I believe I have seen you on gudu, your hair is really rather excellent πŸ™‚

Thank you for link & help! Ingredients are so *censored* tricky sometimes. Some manufactures like changing them without announcing it anywhere. Over the next few months I'm going to test out various conditioners that I got recs for on a black hair care site. So far I've tested out a rosewater spritz (for moisture) and it seems okay so far. Not crazy about smelling like roses but if my hair likes it, it likes it . Going to test out a leave in (conditioner) soon too.

Doesn't sound weird at all! It's pretty funny though how gudu memories can each other based on hair alone *rofl*. It's my favorite dreadlock related website hands down. I've been trying to figure out what to do to my hair to add some extra pizzaz aside from dyeing it. Looks like wraps and extensions are in the future. Once I figure out and complete my "hair project", I'll post again with what I've come up with. And thank you very much ;D
