Is there a science to this or do you just pic a colour you like and hope for the best???!
Here's one way based on what colouring you have which will help you know what family of colours suits you http://www.spencecaterphotography.com/blog1/are-you-warm-or-cool-how-to-find-out-what-colours-suit-you-in-60-seconds
You can always hold up coloured paper to your face and see how your skin looks next to it. If you look sick, tired or off in anyway then it isn't likely to suit you as a hair colour π
I also find that when I first dye my hair a new colour I often think it doesn't suit me, but after a couple of days when I'm used to it I end up really liking it, so don't freak out if you don't like a colour straight away! It can take some adjusting π
Yep, I have the same thing! I very rarely love a colour when I first put it on π
I always photoshop a photo of me with my chosen hair colour before dyeing it. It's not gonna look really realistic but it gives you an idea of what you're gonna look like.
and yeah, I'm the same as the other ladies. It takes me a few days to adjust to a new colour.

this is so true lol.
Daisy can you post a pic and well tell you our opinion? Im tempted to do this myself.
I think the majority of people just pick out the colour that like the most. I only know one friend who is really "into" the warm/cool tones thing (but she admits she dyes her hair black regardless of it because it's the colour she loves). When it comes to unnatural colours I think that if you really like the colour you want to have on your hair, then you'll pull it off no matter what colour your eyes are or if your skin is warm or cool π
Natural shades can be trickier, in my experience. When I was 17 I dyed my light brown hair jet black. I looked older, it made my skin look dull and every single imperfection seemed to really stand out way more and a similar thing happened some years ago when I tried red. It looked pretty under cool lights but otherwise it was just...weird. I couldn't see that colour on me.
I just figure if I look good in a shirt of a certain color I'll look fine with it as a hair color. I have very neutral undertones to my skin so I don't worry too much though. You can always play around with cheap party wigs.
