How can I tell if my hair needs protein?

Or in other words, would I be wasting my money if I splash out on Joico K-Pak reconstructor?  πŸ˜‰

My hair is unprocessed other than Lush henna, which I haven't used in ages actually, and is now sort of BSL/mid-back length.  (well the "canopy" is anyway, I have a great big undercut)

It's extremely prone to knots and tangles so I usually keep it in a braid or bun.
I recently had 2 inches off the bottom but I'm still seeing some split ends (which I seek & destroy with proper hair scissors).

Ye gods I need a new avatar pic

I don't think you need protein unless your hair is processed and damaged, your hair shouldn't be losing protein if it's not had permanent dyes/ bleach on it. (I don't know the science very well but others on the forum do.)
If your hair feels dry get a good moisturising  conditioner without protein in it.

Thanks  πŸ™‚

My long hair's never been bleached (well not since I was about 17 so I guess it's grown out by now!) but I'm considering dip-dying my ends.  If I do, then I'll get some protein goodness for it.

I've used Lush henna several times on my lengths though, so depending on strand test results it might not happen.

If you get it to Ginger there are still colours that will cover it, I think henna with dark purple ends would look really nice. Good luck lightening it!
