How can I make sure I'm not losing hair?

Hi all,
I have always had the greatest hair. Now I am in my early 50s. I am using rogain for some thinning in the back. Other than that, I have a full head of hair. However, I am starting to worry a little about the front of my scalp. I see it looks a little thinner where it's going gray. How do I find out what is going on.  Should I see a dermatologist? This is kind of scary. It might be nothing.
Thanks

Some hair loss is inevitable as we age. Could it just be an optical illusion because the hair is lighter now? Maybe you could ask your stylist for a cut that helps to disguise it.

There are a few things that can cause thinning - natural ageing is the most likely, but also thyroid or other hormone imbalances, and stress. (If you're a lady, the menopause might also be the culprit - edit I see from other threads that you're not.) Your doctor can do blood tests for the hormone stuff but I think Wicked Pixie is probably right and I'm afraid it's just your age πŸ™
