Henna - tell me more...?

Yes it's natural so long as it's pure so often not the case! it's the way it coats the hair and close and suffocates the cuticle, what ever you colour your hair with once its got henna on the henna will dictate the final colour ie  it will always have a warm orange hue. or underlying red Tone. continued use it will feel rough and caustic when wet.
And for future chemical service it cannot be removed  but any product!
But as you say it's natural so it must be ok right? Henna is nothing like hair colour if had  an understanding of Hair structure and chemistry you may see things slightly differently! !  Just do strand tests before mixing Henna and conventional hair colour
Thank you for sharing, Mike B2MR

Yes most definitely do strand test! I used to have a scrap book with all my little "cut off" strand tests, it was quite cute to go back over and look at πŸ™‚

Don't think in all honesty though that I'd henna my hair nowadays πŸ˜€

If i have shared enough information stp one person from a night mare i'm happy!
life is all about seeking information making a decision and living with the consequences.
Henna as a stain is fine for skin for most people as colour stain dye , it does a job but like every thing positive and negative you decide for yourselves! but mixed with hair chemicals is can be a very dangerous mix in out come of colour and condition!
good luck Mike B2MR

Again - test a patch first! When I looked into a henna tattoo I read some horror stories regarding "black" henna which really put me off. I ended up designing an actual tattoo that looked like henna instead. Most people think it's a henna one anyway coz the artist only used a reddish colour to make it look more authentic.

I don't know anything about henna on hair, but my dad had a bad reaction to a henna tattoo once, and sounds like it is quite common to have that happen.

I guess you just need to do a strand test like you should with all the other dyes πŸ™‚

I used to use henna constantly. The color's pretty awesome - comes out a fire engine red when you first dye it, but quickly fades to a bright, streaky auburn color. The henna I used - Hennalucent, unfortunately no longer sold at Sally's Beauty Supply - was pretty messy, though. They called it the consistency of honey, was more the consistency of a runny smoothie, but easy to use, and like I said, my results were always pretty awesome. I'd go for it ^-^

I have used a henna dye from lush years ago and it was great!!

hair was in fantastic condition after it no dammage nothing.

gave a really nice red sheen to my dark brown hair.

i never used any other dye or bleach on top of it tho. =/

Lush are great and a great source of natural products in general. I forgot they do henna but I would probably trust their products. The staff in my local branch are always so darned helpful too so don't be afraid to ask them about henna if you're not sure.
