Help with dying blonde hair darker

My natural hair color is a medium-dark neutral brown. I recently bleached my hair and it went to the pale yellow stage. I toned it once with the Wella Color Charm T18 toner and I don't think I left it on long enough because it was still yellowy, but did look extremely bright and platinum. I left purple shampoo in my hair for 15 min., but there was still a little pale yellow left, but it was better. My hair felt good though and looked shiny.

I felt like the color was too light for me. The next day I bought a Wella demi-permanent toner for a light blonde, but not platinum color and applied it. Afterwards, my platinum hair went down to a light blonde, but it felt super dry and coarse. I put coconut oil in my hair for a few hours and then washed it out. I applied purple shampoo again to help tone it more, and it helped a bit, but it was still a little brassy. The coconut oil helped some with the dryness, but it wasn't great.

Last night, I decided that I needed to go darker because the light hair washed me out. I wanted to go back to brown. I read online that you need red or warm tones to put in your bleached hair if you want to go darker. Also, I read that bleached hair absorbs dye well and will end up looking darker than you expect. So I bought a Golden Dark Blonde permanent hair dye and applied it this morning. My hair ended up looking exactly like the front of the box, which is lighter than I wanted. It still washes me out, and I think the warm color looks a little off on me. Also, my hair feels very dry and coarse.

I would like to go to a medium neutral brown color so when my roots grow in, they will match pretty well. I do sort of regret doing this whole thing and I miss my old hair.

What dye should I put on top to achieve a neutral-toned medium brown color? My current hair color is a dark golden blonde, which is a permanent dye on top of bleached pale yellow hair.

You have processed your hair 4 times, which is why it isn't feeling great now. i would avoid any further processing and just stick to direct dyes, which are not damaging at all. A diluted brown from Adore would be my suggestion, something like Dark Chocolate diluted with conditioner to lighten it to the shade you want. Or get a warm brown and an ash toned one and you can mix a shade that matches your roots.
