Has anyone used food coloring to tone their hair??

I've been doing some research on toners...and i've come across a couple blogs where the blogger swears by using food coloring mixed with vinegar as a rinse, or adding a few drops to your shampoo and conditioner to create a depositing shampoo/conditioner combo..

they say, use purple/bluish purple for blondes
they say use blueish green/green for brunettes and highlights

It seems very appealing to me, and i intend on trying it when i have to tone my hair in the future...
I'm interested to know if any members of this site have heard of anything like this, tried it, and what are the thoughts on this!

Thanks,
L.A.

My friend said that her best friend's mom used green food coloring to tone down her super red roots after she got her hair dyed. I have never tried it though. Keep us updated if you try it. I definitely would like to know if it works.

I would imagine you'd have to use a fair amount for it to work.

I have been wondering hiw good using turmeric fir yellow would be. It stains everything,  I might give it a go πŸ™‚

based on the blog posts i found, one mentions to use a "pea sized amount" to mix with shampoo and with conditioner to created your own tone depositing shampoo, and the other mentioned using "1/8 of a spoon to mix with white vinegar" to make a rinse. I will post the links to the blog posts after i get home from work!! you can take a look and see if it there is anything that interests you!

i probably won't try this for maybe a couple of weeks. I want to add some to my conditioner and shampoo, as i think that would probably be the most useful...will definitely keep you posted!

I recently tried the vinegar from a jar of pickled beetroot on my hair. I figured vinegar was good and beetroot is used as a  food colouring agent so why not lol. It did colour my hair, but only lasted until my next wash and i didn't even use shampoo. I left it on for hours too. So it does work but doesn't last at all.
