I really hope he figures something out! I'm only 21, I can't deal with having no hair πŸ™ I had long, healthy hair this time last month and I'm really not sure why this is happening! Thank you so much katiesiepierski, you're lovely πŸ™‚ I will keep you all updated on what happens. Xx

Like the others said, if it's got a bulb at the end then it's from the root.  Our normal hairs shed from the root and they do grow back, so don't lose hope.  Some things that can help stimulate the follicles and encourage hair regrowth is a regular scalp massage (preferably a minimum of 10 minutes a day), as well as not wearing a hat when it's cold and wearing a sunhat when it's warm (like mentioned earlier in the thread, this helps stimulate the body to grow more hair and protects the hair that's around from the damage of the sun).

We had a moderator a couple of years ago who had a family member with severe alopecia, and she went to a specialist and this was his advice.  With it, she started to get some growth on her bald areas.  It takes time, but it does work.

Thank you Intempestivity πŸ™‚ I'm not sure if cutting my hair any shorter will stop it falling out? I think it's getting worse by the day... Had some blood tests done yesterday but have to wait a few days for the results. My doctor told me it could he stress related but didn't have a clue on what I could do to stop it from happening :/ the thought of having no hair for months makes me feel ill because I know it wouldn't suit me at all but if it needs to happen I guess I'll have to do it

I doubt short hair will help, just give a better illusion :<
With stress it triggers hair loss about 2 months later for about another 3-6 months, in most cases, mostly it stops on its own atleast for me in the past, but.. I really hope your doctor can help you asap with something to stop the loss, although once the loss cycle kicks in there is little to do about it and its mostly about growing the new hair out πŸ™

I've just ordered some hair mayonnaise, apparently it helps stimulate the scalp and reduce shedding? I don't know, I just want my hair to grow or at least stop falling out asap, I'd try anything!

I've noticed today aswell that some parts of my head are itchy, I'm guessing this is just from where my hair is falling out and irritating my scalp?

When I hit my late teens/ early 20s I became a seasonal shedder. This time of year (autumn) every year my hair comes out like crazy, I wash my hair and get handfuls of strands with the root bulb attached. It's very annoying because I have very, very, very fine hair so I need every strand possible to avoid looking bald. It stops after a few months and goes back to normal. My mom's hair was the same way so I guess it's genetic. When it first happened I was really worried but didn't have health insurance to see the doctor and have any tests done.

The itchiness could be irritation from regrowth, dry scalp, dandruff or another skin condition (which could be a reason for fall out). Definitely let your doctor know about it and have them take a look.

I'm hoping I'm the same spooki, my hair is super thin too. It's getting to the point where I can see my scalp more, especially near my parting and it's awful! My mums hair sheds a lot too but hers is short so it's not that noticeable. I went to the doctor yesterday but he didn't seem too worried or interested if I'm honest, starting to think if there's any point in going back and seeing a different one.

I'd definitely go for a second opinion--it never hurts and can only help.  Doctors should really pay attention to hair and nail health, as they're often the very first indicators of what's going on deeper in the body, especially if it involves deficiencies or anything with the metabolism.

Also, regarding how to style your hair, go to a good salon and ask for their advice.  They can help you find a cut that will help your hair look fuller if necessary and they will tell you how to style it to hide any thin patches.

I'd definitely get a second opinion.  They should at the very least run labs... Sometimes doctors are quite dismissive of younger patients.  If you are concerned, you should at least be heard.  My hair is falling out right now, too... So I do feel for you!!  I hope your issue resolves soon!

Booking another doctors appointment tomorrow because today I noticed my scalp is really sore and itchy, almost like dandruff but more like scabs and when I itch them my hair just falls out along with the scab/flake πŸ™

It could be psoriasis brought on by stress, and the stress could also contribute to hair loss.  My friend had psoriasis on her scalp in our first year of uni together, and it looked like cradle cap and itched like mad.  She ended up needing steroid creams to treat her scalp (though a steroid cream wouldn't help with hair loss πŸ™ ).

I hope you manage to get an answer soon.

With the soreness/itching/scabs it does sound like psoriasis brought on by stress, and like @Intempestivoty said, the stress could be whats contributing to the hair loss. Did your dr at least do bloodwork? I hope he did. I would find another dr though, one that will actually take you seriously (from my experience can actually be hard to find. So many drs here in the states have a god complex its terrible!). Maybe see an actual dermatologist

Yeah he did refer me for blood tests! Just waiting on the results. I purchased a wig today (never thought I'd do that in my life :|) because my hair has no volume to it at all and I'm super self conscious now! I booked another doctors appointment for later this week so will keep you posted πŸ™‚

Also thank you everyone for your suggestions and support! It means the world. I have no guts to talk to any of my friends or family about this, obviously apart from my parents and younger sister so anything you suggest really helps and gives me hope! Thank you! Xx

πŸ™

Atleast wigs are accessible and decent quality these days, and you can have the most versatile hair colours every day of the week if it gets down to it :(?

That's true Aeryu, I mean I'm not completely bald but my hair is so thin and it's actually embarrassing, even around my family πŸ™ my wig is getting delivered tomorrow so I may post a picture on here and ask for opinions!
