I wanna join!!! So my hair growth has been from this
April 2012
(I'm the one with pink hair)
to this
December 2013
Sorry I couldn't seem to flip the picture... Stupid tinypic.
Anyway, I plan to keep going till it reaches bra strap length, it would be longer but i've been having regular trims to keep away the split ends.
Right, doesn't vinegar help close up the cuticle after bleaching? I suppose the 'effect' I meant was that they both clean up the scalp and kill off anything preventing growth.
That's what I mean. What they do to hair and scalp are different. They may have some things in common but obviously vinegar is much healthier for the scalp than bleach.
Vinegar can be used much more often as well. For me, bleach only helps for a few days. After that I have to do other treatments, so I have no idea how long the effects of bleach last on someone with more minor overgrowth. Using bleach on a normal scalp is way way overkill as far as being used to clean. It's like washing your dishes in house hold bleach when just regular soap will do.
Since you're going blonde I would use white vinegar because it lightens more and it doesn't leave reddish tones that acv can leave. Strong Acv rinses actually took my natural dark brown hair to a medium golden brown, that's why I dont use it anymore.
Oh, I have just made myself mad by looking through old photos. Here is how long my hair used to be:
Then I got an ombre and totally fried the bottom half(hair dresser triple processed it):
Couldn't handle how crispy it felt, so I chopped it all off:
And that was 1.5 years ago. I should be back to where I started in another year or so, as long as I stay kind to my hair and don't have to keep taking off inches because of damage.
I know what you mean about missing your long hair, for what it's worth I think it looks great at that length and really healthy too.
Wow you were brave BabyJ! Chances are that hair would have snapped off anyway, and now you have gorgeous purple hair so it was definitely worth it. Is that your natural colour too? It is so shiny and healthy in the first pic.
Looking at my old pictures makes me really mad as well, I fried my super long hair and ended up cutting it in 2 sessions down to my chin an unflattering cut π my hair will never be the same sigh π
Wicked, the first pic is very close to my natural color(with some highlights in the underlayers), but I have had greys since about 20, so I have always dyed my hair to cover them. Even before crazy colors I changed my hair quite often.
We are hair twins, (apart from mine being curly) as i started going grey at 17, and that is close to my natural colour.
My hair was about 2 inches away from my bum until I recently bleached it. My ends couldn't handle it and got quite dry afterwards so I cut it, I took off about 4 or 5 inches. I'm not quite done with lightening my hair yet so once I'm all done I will probably cut off another 1 or 2 inches and then no more bleach and I'll start trying to grow it again with regular trims this time though.
@BabyJ your hair is gorgeous, it always looks so lush, shiny and voluminous <3
I cut some more of my hair off. I could tell it was damaged from the bleach, not too badly though. It just didn't feel like how my hair normally does and it was driving me bonkers. It wasn't holding in moisture; 2 days after I would wash/condition/treat it, it felt super dry on the ends of my layers. So I took all my layers and face frame up. They started at around my collarbone, now they're at about lip length, blending down to the end length in the back which is probably about 23 inches now. Because of the shorter face frame and layers, it feels much shorter, but it really isn't much shorter technically. I thought I would be upset over it but I'm not because now my hair feels back to normal now that all the damage is gone. The hair that I still have is the hair that was only bleach bathed once. It feels like how my hair was when I kept it black for years and I'm so happy! No more fluffyness when I wake up, barely any tangles..it feels so much better. And I know that it's healthy and I won't be getting any breakage from it down the road, unless I were to do more processes to it which I do not intend to at all! Just root touch ups and semis for this girl!
I've noticed just how much my hair has grown recently and I feel like doing the happy dance! The first pic was May 2012, the second was the other day yippieeee!
I've deffo cut back on the bleaching so this has helped a lot!
Wow! Super longggg! π
I really want to grow out my pixie cut because I miss my long hair so much, but I'm really bad at not cutting it when it gets to that initial unflattering growing out stage π
Wow @WickedPixie your hair looks lush! And even though you didn't want the cut your hair looks amazing so think how it would have turned out if you'd struggled on with it π
I've had a hair meltdown over Christmas when I noticed that while the rest of my hair is growing the front (now, layers) don't seem to be and where I'd had it all cut to one length I now seem to have face framing layers, not impressed, stupid stupid hair.
I think I reached my hair growth target for 'by December' but I haven't actually measured yet but it definitely feels like it's grown. Pregnancy has not worked in my favour this time π
@Deloria, thank you, it feels much better now, not rough at all. It does get very tangly still, but I'm putting that down to my hair type and the rotten weather. I got three bottles of Argan oil for Christmas (do you think I might waffle on about it a bit? lol) as I had run out and it feels really silky again now. I LOVE Argan oil!
Congratulations on the pregnancy, brilliant news, I hope everything goes well this time. If your hair is acting differently from last lime, I would take that as a good sign.
