i do do it from freshly soggy washed hair, maybe the damp hair helps. Only takes me half an hour to do it all. and then i sit around watching tv stuffs for a few hours. though washing it out takes a while, specially with rose red!! made sure i had lots of vaseline and even wore gloves for the washing out part.
i think because i had my hair shaved with tiny spikes and allways experimented throughout all the lengths it was i just kinda adapted and got uber fast with the dying and the cutting etc
It's not even that. I dye on damp, just washed hair too lol
When I do it on dry hair I use more than twice as much!
Wow, I have no idea how you use so little! lol, I need 8oz of dye for my whole head and it takes 2-3 hours to apply. Then I cover my head in plastic and sleep on it.
Not sure either :p but it seems to do the trick. I couldn't sleep in it, that does get too heavy! But 2 hours soak seems to be enough for a long lasting colour, but I do only wash once a week and down to only using tiny amounts of shampoo and conditioner.
Sorry to keep asking questions (my thrifty side is hoping to pick up some tips lol) but how exactly are you applying the dye? With a tint brush or your hands? Are you combing it through?
Wicked, since I switched from using a regular tint brush to a sprush, I have really cut down on how much dye I use. Probably about 25% less.
I just use my hands and do it in sections, basically start with middle partning in the hair, then create a new partning about a centimeter further and just continue like that, then do other side π
Helloooo, has anyone heard of or used the hairfinity tablets? I'm sure it's a fad thing but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted!!
^I have seen people talking about them all over Instagram, but no real life experiences!
I got my hair cut last night. I had to lose about 3-4 inches. So sad. Buy my hair feels soooo much better now! I told her to keep as much length as possible but to cut everything that was breaking. She said it was pretty bad :/
Edit: OK, so I looked up Hairfinity and it is basically just Biotin. Save your money and just get some Biotin π
Does biotin actually work? How long does it take? I used to take sea kelp and still have some of that but haven't been taking it. I had a bit of a chop as well, most of my layers had grown down to my collarbone so I had a blunt cut there. Mostly because the bottom layers kept feeling long and the front wasn't changing so the hair straighteners have been sent to my mums and I'm hoping it'll grow nice and thick the same length now. I've got 12 months till the wedding and I'd rather it was my hair and not extensions!
Wow so many nice pictures of long hair! I'm totally envious π
I'm here now to post some progress pictures of my own hair actually! So here's my hair.. First a comparison from when I started (december 2013) and from sept 2014: (and my hairdressers dog haha)
And then a bonus: A couple of awkward "what-am-I-supposed-to-do-with-it"-hair pics (I even wore a hat in all desperation):
It has grown quite a bit, but I'm loooonging for hair down to my boobs (basically haha) π
I have trimmed my bangs every month since july and trimmed the mullet every few months since then and now it's sort of a shooort bob?? I like it anyways. I have slowly grown out my own colour but the last few inches of my hair is a washed out semipermanent ash brown (which now is lighter than my own colour!)
Heeeey guys π
SO I signed up to this forum a while back to ask for some advice on dying my hair red. I've been dying it for a few years now and was a directions user for a while but now I actually dye at the sallon, which is new to me but I finally found a hairdresser that respects what I ask for and the dyes they use are great
but enough of that, I actually logged back just to share and talk about hair growing which is my current "obsession". Ive been trying to grow it out for years. I used to have tailbone length way before I started dying. then I cut it ALL off, and it grew back sorta fast I guess but thats just because it was really short and I always fetl that when I have short hair it grows out fast and then "stops".. ever since I started dying it though it grows out slower. not much of a difference though, it always grew slower than average.
right now it's at the bra strap, and I like it but I still wanna get it longer, I've never had it this long after I started dying, and I remember how pretty it used to be when it was long , so I can only imagine how prety it will be long AND orange/red (I switch it up).
now Im gonna start trying a few things all at the same time to see how much I can get it to grow until the end of december. right now it's growing half a centimeter per month. that's very little. here's the stuff Im gonna try out, and then I'll come here and give feedback π i thought about creating a new thread but Ill only do that after I see some results and share what I did so people can try it out themselves if it does work):
- Zinc. I read a lot about the effects of zinc in hair growth. So I got myself a bottle from Solgar, they're 23mg per capsule one capsule a day. it's also known that zinc is great for the skin and to treat breakouts so that's a plus
- Biotin. I had to. everyone's talking about it around youtube and hair care forums. I've read about people having 2 side effects: breakouts, and body hair growing thicker or just more than usual. Now, the first was a concern of mine because I'm currently treating my skin and getting reed of acne. The latter doesn't scare me much because my body hairs grow super slow and weak, and if that changes for a while, it only means that my head hair is growing too and that's worth it. so yeah let's see!!
- castor oil. I haven't bought it yet but I'm still trying to find a store in my city that has it :/ really wanna try it. I need a oil anyway because I wanna massage my scalp every other night before going to bed, it really helps and also to apply to the ends. and I've seen a lot of stuff about how castor oil strengthens the hair and promotes growth. we'll see π haven't found it yet though so if I never do I'll be using emu oil instead.
- Sfree sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Now I know this might be crap but I wanted a sulphate free shampoo for a while and this one supposedly helps with growth specifically so yeah
- last but not least, the inversion method. know about it? it's supposed to give you a half an inch to a full inch in a week. I wasn't too into trying it just because I'd have to wash my hair (or co-wash it at least) every day that I wanna leave the house . but I told my mum about it today and she actually got a bit mad that I han't told her about it sooner lol so we made a pact and we're doing it next week π you basically warm some oil (coconut, castor, olive, what have you, I'll be using olive) and you apply it to the scalp while massaging it for a few minutes. then you find a way to get your head upside down (to the downard facing dog position, or just sit on a chair and hold your head upside down or lay in bed with your head leaning down at the edge of the bed) and stay like that for 4 minutes. I've tried it and it doesn't make me dizzy or anything, I just have trouble remembering to do it for 7 night straight! I'll also be applying olive oil to the whole head every other night because I always find it to give my hair a great shine even after washing, and Ill be using a wrap to do the greenhouse effect.
super sorry for the long post!!!! But yeah this is what Im gonna be doing for the next 2 months and while I do it Ill post the results π but if anyone has done any of these things already I'd totally welcome the feedback !
little update!
I started taking biotin, started at 1000mcg, then up to 3000, now 5000 and next week Ill up to 10,000 mcg a day. I haven't noticed breakouts so far, but i drink tons of water. Im also taking zinc, silica, and omega-3 (the last 2 I already took before )
this past week I did the inversion method and it worked for me π I got 1cm on the top of the head and from 1,5 to 2cm in the back/lower part of the scalp. that's not an inch but it's still awesome!!
today I dyed my roots so from now on Ill have a clear easy way to see how much it grows in a month. if it grows more than usual, it'd mean biotin works

copperlizzie - any updates on the inversion method and your hair growth? Im trying to grow my hair too and found out about the Inversion method last night. Going to try it. Definitely think Coconut oil makes my hair grow a little faster.
