Hello everyone! What brought me to register here is because I live in Portugal and here we don't have the hair dye brands I see everywhere online. I usually dye my hair purple at the hair saloon but I'm looking to do it at home cause I always leave the hair saloon disappointed. Despite my efforts I never found an hairdresser familiar enough with crazy hair colors, and bleaching and toning and layering and highlighting, and the results I get are usually bland, straight and not to my expectations. And I know it's a lot of work and products, and I'm willing to pay for it, but I feel that I always pay to much for what I get, cause hairdressers here are only used to do straightforward natural coloring. So I'm going to do it myself!
Side-story: I once paid a ridiculous amount of money to go from brown to ombrΓ© purple (dark purple to light purple), trusting it was a really well rated hair saloon and they would do a good bleaching job. I was so wrong! The so-called 'hair color artist' applied the bleach from the neck down making a harsh pathetic line and she was so afraid to screw up my hair she washed away the bleach like 10/15 minutes later leaving my hair not even light brown, it was STILL brown. Needless to say I got everything BUT an ombrΓ© purple. But they charged BIG anyway (even the ridiculous bleaching job)!
The best purple hair results I ever had were by Goldwell's Elumen hair dye. But that's an american company and shipping is to expensive for me...
So this is what I have at my disposal:
- Igora Royal (violet extra 4-99)

- Revlonissimo (Colorsmetique Burgundy C5, OR NMT cromatics C20)

- Koleston by Wella (Koleston Perfect 55/66)

Does anyone have experience with any of these hair dyes? I would be SOOOO thankful for reviews on them.
A few years ago I've tried a box of violet dye on my brown hair and it turned out mahogany/red/rust color. That made go back to hair saloons. But the brand wasn't as promising as these I've posted, so I'm really hopeful this time.
Thanks for listening to my frustrations everyone! I would appreciate any advice you can give me π
What colour do you want to achieve, and what colour is your hair now (plus how did you get there, what dyes are on it)
Those dyes are all oxidative ones, you will not get a vivid purple or any other unnatural colour with those types of dye.
You need to use direct dyes, such as the ones sold here, if you want bright colours.
Thanks I'll forget them then!
So over the last two years I've done bleaching and Elumen what got me this:
I was happy with that even though I aim for something more like:
When I asked for the ombrΓ© purple this was the image I used as reference:
I didn't get it, at all *rofl*
Right now the purple faded and I've got a mess on top of my head. I've got everything: brown, light brown, rust, red, pink, copper, a couple strands purple-ish, you name it.
I'm definitely looking for a more blue-based purple (does that make sense?). Any advice on brands?
To get that violet type of purple you need a blonde base. On a darker base even a vivid purple will look darker and more red toned.
Really good purple direct dyes include Pravana violet, Adore Purple Rage and special effects Deep Purple. (I would get a blue to mix as well, as they may fade pinker. Deep purple and Blue Velvet slightly diluted with conditioner makes a stunning violet)
Thanks a lot! I'm definitely going with direct dyes then. I'll try your combo as soon as I can get my hands on them π
