I've read a lot of threads mentioning the harmful effect of silicones, sulfates, and too much protein on the hair. Since I'm new to these information, I'm confused. My hair went dry and frizzy (it's weird because it's just the right part of my hair that became dry) and I'm not sure if it's because of the bleaching or wrong hair care AKA too much protein. Can you guys guide me with the proper hair care?
Here's my current hair routine:
I put on VCO before taking a bath, on a dry hair, once or twice a week. I leave it on for at least 30 minutes. I shampoo everyday; I use a natural shampoo, sulfate and silicone-free. I also condition everyday; my conditioner is a keratin conditioner but it has a -cone in its ingredients. Then I put a single drop of moroccan argan oil after drying my hair. I use Shinemoist Ionic Keratin Treatment once a week.
I think something's wrong with my hair care routine so I'm planning to hoard some new products. Please help me out. I couldn't find all products mentioned in this list ( http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=11008.0;topicseen ) locally. I know, it sucks!! The only trusted products available here in my country are Tresemme, Suave, Pantene, Vidal Sassoon, Schwarzkopf.. and no naturals available π
Also, when should I use VCO? The next day after the moisturizing treatment or just after the conditioner?Should I buy another treatment/mask or just change my conditioner? And lastly, should I use a clarifying shampoo first before changing my routine?
Sorry this is too long but I don't know what else to do π thanks in advance!!
PS: I need to shampoo everyday because my scalp produces too much oil in just a day π But my hair's still dry *sigh*
So when did this feeling start? After bleaching? If so, that would explain why it's just on one side. My guess is you started on the right side and this was processing longer, so damaged more.
There's a very good chance your scalp is producing too much oil BECAUSE you wash your hair every day. You should give it a few weeks and try to stretch out the washes as long as you can.
Yes, my hair went dry after bleaching. Ahh, yes, I think my friend put on too much bleach on the right side. That explains it.
I tried not to wash my hair for three days and it went super greasy! I couldn't stand it so I went back to washing everyday π
It's tough to get through, but it really is worth it π Even if at first you go to once every two days, then a couple of weeks later every three days and work up to it.
If it doesn't get better then it's worth going to the doctor.
It does sound like bleach damage, but I also think you're using way too much protein. Protein treatments should be used no more than once a week, even on the most damaged of hair, and should always be followed by a good moisturising treatment. I'd switch your conditioner to a hydrating one, not a keratin-based one, cut the coconut oil soaks to maybe one every two weeks and keep the weekly keratin treatment. You also might benefit from using a bit of extra virgin olive oil on your strands once a week, as it's really good at moisturising hair.
Alright, thank you so much!! *1*
Can you get hold of Bastiste dry shampoo? It's brilliant for those of us who have greasy hair - I used to have to wash mine everyday but now I can wash it every 3 or 4 days.

Yes, I found some Batiste dry shampoo. Will try it! One question though: when you wash your hair, what shampoo do you use?
I use sulphate free shampoo (currently Organix anti breakage Keratin) because sulphates wash veggie dye out faster, I have eczema and I think they annoy my skin and I also heard that Sodium Laureth Sulphate can actually destroy your hair follicles making it thinner - and my hair is already thin, I don't want to make it worse!)
Sulphates will also make your hair greasier in the long run - because they're such harsh chemicals they strip your scalp of moisture making it work overtime to produce more sebum. Have you tried washing your hair with conditioner? It sounds weird but it works really well for greasy hair - because shampoo strips your natural oils but conditioner doesn't it slows your scalps natural production. There are loads of threads on the forum about conditioner only washing.
My hair's very thin too π I'm using Human Heart Nature's moisturizing shampoo so I guess my shampoo's safe.
Yes I've tried CO washing but it still left my hair greasy. I guess I really have to use dry shampoo. Thanks for your advice! *thx*
I think if you change the conditioner you're using, then that will help with the greasiness
