I bleached my hair a lot a few years back but shaved it all off nearly 2 years ago to give it a chance to be healthy. However, my hair is breaking at the roots and snaps when I do a test on a loose hair.
If anything it's worse than when it was bleached.
Is it possible that my hair is permanently damaged? or is it just a diet thing? My hair is also REALLY static-y, likes stupidly so.
The bleaching couldn’t have permanently damaged your hair. The only way it can do that is if you get chemical burns so bad that it kills the follicles on your scalp. Then it won’t grow at all! There is no real other way it can affect future hair growth. If this is happening, then it’s something else.
How far is it stretching before it snaps?
Have you done anything else to it? Dyed it with any other dye? Had it straightened or permed?
What products do you use?
Are you tying it up in tight pony tails or buns?
It being full of static is more likely to be a product you’re using.
How long is your hair now? Is the breakage all over or only in one or two places?
Do you blow-dry it or do anything else that might make it dry? An idea of your hair routine might help with suggestions.
You mention diet. Yes, eating well can help your hair and a restricted diet can damage it. If you think your diet might be at fault, that would be a good place to start : )
Finally, if you continue to have serious problems, it might be worth asking for a general check up with the doctor/nurse as very occasionally their can be a medical reason for hair problems, eg hormonal causes, thyroid, etc
Hi, sorry for not giving much info, I wasn't very well at the time and my brain was being extra slow. I then went on to forget I had posted but anyway, I'm still suffering so hopefully I can get a bit of help.

It doesn't stretch, whether it's wet or dry.
I have used a hairdryer and straighteners in the past 2 years but not very often and I've not done any of those things in about 2 months. As for hair dye or anything else, nothings touched it.
I use Dr Organics vitamin E shampoo and conditioner but previous to that I used random Superdrug ones. I don't use anything else.
I occasionally have my hair up but it's not that often and never tight as I had heard that it can be damaging.
The static is infuriating as my hair is fine and even thinner on top so makes me feel very insecure.
GlowMyOwnWay - It's mainly breaking on my hairline and crown. My diet and health in general is most probably the biggest cause of it and I'm trying to improve it as I suffer from severe depression and can sometimes go most of the day not eating.
I guess for now, I'm hoping there may be some short term things that may help whilst I sort my health out.
If your health is generally poor at the moment, that’s almost certainly the cause. I should have thought to ask that as well. It’s really something you’ll have to talk to the doctor about. Without knowing what your hair is lacking it’s impossible to say what could make it better.

Thank you. Unfortunately my depression/anxiety makes it hard for me to even make a doctors appointment so that's why I was asking for something that may prevent further breakage until I can sort my physical health out.
I've been to the doctors in the past and thyroid etc was ruled out.

If you think that the hair issues are due to your diet/health, then perhaps even something as simple as a good multivitamin and mineral supplement might help. Perhaps a look on health sites could be useful in helping you choose.
Also, googling something like “What vitamins are good for hair breakage?” might help you find areas to explore.
I get what you’re saying about the depression. That must be hard for you. I know you’ve probably been told this and I also know that it’s easier said than done, but improving your diet can help you feel better in yourself too.
