growing out a pixie

Does anybody have any advice about growing out a pixie cut, I've had it for over a year and I'm starting to hit that awkward length where its mid ear length and itches my ear like crazy. I have been using a headband to keep myself from cutting it, lol. I was looking at an old thread about hair growing so I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for products to use to help it grow, I do have naturally fast growing hair but I need to speed it up even more because this hair in my ear thing is annoying!!

Even if anybody has ideas on how to style it stays behind my ear, I have obviously tried the headband thing and I also sometimes do a French braid, but im just looking for other ideas.

*thx*

There are no products or supplements that can speed up hair growth unfortunately.
Growth rate is decided by genetics and hormones. All you can do is ensure you are getting the maximum growth by eating a balanced diet and keeping your ends healthy

I do little twists in various directions. Maybe use a scarf or headband. Hair accessories tend to be my go to when I'm growing out hair. Little distractions from the frustrating process of growing lol Wear it in a scarf every day for a couple of weeks and it's amazing how long it suddenly feels when you haven't been looking at it every day!

I found my hair seemed to grow faster when I was doing yoga every day, it could have been a coincidence but there are people who believe doing an inversion (downward dog etc) for a few mins every day helps circulation of blood to the scalp. It can't hurt I guess even if it isn't true!

As for hair styles, my growing out ones tend to be the braided fringe/bangs (classic!), a bandana worn like  Rosie the Riveter, fringe/bangs pinned into a 'bump' like a quiff at the front, mini victory rolls, or pin curled and ruffled up. It seems to be quite trendy at the moment to wear short hair slicked back with gel too, but I haven't tried that one! The best one of all was my yoga/turban headband I made from a tutorial on Pinterest, it was really easy and I still wear it constantly even now my hair is long!

Definitely coincidence and it probably wasn't growing faster at all. I see so many conflicting explanations as to why it works that I'm 100% certain it's bunk πŸ™‚ But, seeing as there are other benefits to yoga (though somewhat over played in many circles) if you want to do it then definitely go for it! I guess it might help with the health of the scalp and hair. Maybe. Still definitely doesn't equal faster growth though. Even if it does, it's going to be minimal as it's so caught up in genetics.

I hate yoga, infinitely too boring for me!

It definitely grew faster for a few months, I was measuring it regularly, and it's slowed down now but it could just be that my general health improved at that time as it was around the time I moved here so I would have been getting a lot more fresh air, exercise and eating fresher foods. I have terrible circulation anyway so I think just exercising more improved a lot of the problems that brought on!

I find it too boring to do it as my main form of exercise, but it does wonders for my bad back to just do a few little stretches each day!

Yeah... I've had lots of friends who say their hair is growing faster due to XXX.

When I can I offer to also measure their hair along with them. Funnily enough, my measurements end up being a lot slower growth than theirs. There are things we do to unconsciously fool ourselves and this is likely one. It's like when you use a Ouija board. There's the ideomotor response that causes us to unconsciously move the planchette. It's fascinating.

I believe a similar thing happens when people are measuring their own hair when they *want* it to grow. I've seen loads of videos on you tube of people doing the inversion method and with many it's quite obvious they're fooling themselves. But then, that's obvious when they think their hair has grown an inch or 2 in a week!!

Oh yeah, I'm not talking about inches at a time or anything! Nothing dramatic at all really, just I noticed a bit of a spurt around that time. It was easy to measure as it was shaved at the nape when I started! Like I say, it probably wasn't down to that but it's not gonna do any harm if people want to try it, at worst they'll get a nice stretch!

thanks for the advice! I have my shopping list made of all the accessories I am going to buy, lol. I love the look of headbands but I always get a headache from them  πŸ™ but hopefully I can find some that wont kill my head.

I will definitely have to look into the yoga thing, I did yoga years ago, but didn't keep up with it. My OH and I are taking a pilates class so I can get my body ready for carrying a baby next year, maybe i'll notice some "extra circulation" from that.

Now I had 1 other question I forgot to ask before but I bleach obviously, I do it safely with coconut oil on my hair and deep conditioning after but do you think I should chill on bleaching for awhile and just use semi's to darken my hair as I grow it out? I usually bleach every 6 weeks, but I could definitely make it longer, I just don't like the look of long roots with my current length cause it looks weird.

I'm not sure why you want to do that? Do you over lap a lot or something? Are you worried about breakage?

(By the way, Google my name, Janine Basil, and you'll find a load of headbands I make and sell! I hate tight headbands too and more often have complaints they're too loose if anything. They might not be to your taste, but thought I'd mention it. I rarely mention it here, but occasionally it makes sense! Message me if you want anything as I have a discount code for members here πŸ™‚ )

I will definitely look up your site Janine, thanks!!

Um I really try not to overlap, I mean a little bit is inevitable with the short hair I have right now, I was more so thinking about the overall health of my hair I guess. But I guess as long as I'm careful I will be fine. I was actually on Pinterest last night and found a bunch of cute styles where the roots were grown out and I actually liked the look so hopefully once I get another couple inches I might go for the intentional root grow out look.

I think it's often better to keep on top of roots. As soon as you have more than half an inch you start to have problems with hot roots and mismatched bits. Mega pain and you'll likely end up damaging it more in frustration of trying to match lol

I grew to like the rootsy look though, even on pixie cuts, so maybe it won't harm to grow it out now. Depends what you want to do in the future πŸ™‚

I wish I could just make up my mind about my hair, I swear I change it every 2 seconds or the minute I see something new that I want to try, lol. Oh well, for now I will keep up on the root situation till it gets a tad longer and then we will see.  πŸ˜€

Well its been about 2 months since I have done a real cut to my hair ( I don't count the trim to the back since it was such a small amount and it was to keep it from looking like a mullet!!). I have about 2 inches of hair growth and have bleached my roots once so far, now im on the hunt for the perfect color for fall. I'm hoping that doing a fun (yet work appropriate) color will help get my mind off this awkward stage!
