Going from silver/lilac to red. Should I use neutral red?

Hello everybody, I'm sorry I don't have pictures of my hair for you guys, because from what I've seen silver-lilac hair and pastel tones are all the rage right now! I love my lilac hair, truly, but I'm going to need a more natural-looking shade to find a job with. I haven't had red hair since junior high, so I thought it would be a nice switch!

My dilemma is figuring out what shade of red I should go to. I have a light shade of silver-lilac, it looks almost baby pink in places, with a few gray, sandy tones thrown in. My natural color is a medium to dark blonde. It always bleaches really well, with only a little yellow thrown in, and I am very adept at toning it to the palest ash blonde that I so adore.

I really wanted to go for either a black-cherry burgundy red, or a deep, neutral red. I'm just not sure which one would take better. I'm afraid that the burgundy will fade quickly and end up looking magenta (or not? because of the violet tones), and I'm also afraid that the neutral red won't take because of the violet tones in my hair. I like both shades equally, so it's just a matter of which one will look best. Probably neutral red would suit me best, as I have a cool-shade skin tone, but will it look alright?

I'm thinking about trying a Manic-Panic shade of red color, then going over it with a neutral-red box dye, possibly without the developer, since I had to do a fair bit of damage to get my hair silver. Does anyone have any advice or experience with these two colors? I'd love some help.

There's no way for us to say if it'll suit you without seeing you, but in theory a neutral red will suit anyone.

Red is strong and will easily cover a pastel.

You've definitely got the dye sequence wrong though. There's no point in using a box dye, especially after a veggie dye and even more especially without the developer. Just use the veggie dye (manic panic if this is the one/s you choose) straight over what you have. Red is pretty easy to get, but will require maintenance. There's a thread in the tutorial section on how to get, maintain and even remove red hair and another on keeping hair bright and prevent fading. You should have a look through them πŸ™‚

Thank you for the help! I think I'll go for a neutral red. I like the color better anyway. My hair is very pale by now, and I think it would take pretty well. Manic Panic is great, but not natural-looking enough for work, I'm sure. I'll try neutral red first, and if it does end up looking odd, I'll know to try burgundy next.

Adore make some nice natural reds or you can add some red to their brown shades.
