I'm going to try it out tonight for the first time. It's Garnier Ultimate Blends "The Sleek Restorer" with coconut oil and cocoa butter.
Ingredients list from the back:
Aqua/Water, cetearyl Alcohol, Elaeis Guineesis Oil/Palm Oil, Behentrimonium chloride, ci17200, Red 33, cocos Nucifera Oil/coconut Oil, Hydroxycitronellan, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Theobroma cacao Butter/cocoa Seed Butter, chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Isopropyl Alcohol, caramel citric Acid, Hexyl cinnamal, Glycerin, Parfum/Fragrance
Price: Normally Β£3.88 per bottle, but Asda currently have a "2 for Β£4" offer on selected shampoos and conditioners. It looked really good, so I picked up two bottles (you'd have to be crazy not to--an extra bottle for only 12p!).
I'll let you lot know later tonight how it works on my hair and in a week or so if there's any build up, because I use SLS-free shampoo (Happy Hair Days). In theory, it shouldn't build up, but we'll see! I'll also probably move this to "reviews" once I've used it.
Not sure if the shampoo in this range is SLS-free; I didn't check because I was only looking to buy conditioner. There's also five other conditioners in this range; again, I didn't check the ingredients because the coconut oil/cocoa butter combo grabbed my attention first and we wanted to get out of the store as quickly as possible (hate shopping in the evenings). I've just looked on Garnier's website and they don't seem to have an ingredients list for this range, so if anyone else picks any of these Ultimate Blends up, feel free to add to this thread!
Thanks so much for posting, I've seen their oil adverisement on youtube.
The conditioner comes about to 2 quid per 200ml. Not too bad, but it doesn't beat Tresemme Vibrantly Smooth conditioner that's 2.50 for 750ml
I don't know if conditioner can actually do anything... I don't see them as a treatment or anything. I use conditioners mainly as a finishing step to smooth my hair out, and to dilute dyes or bleaches. Or co-washing.
Here's my reasoning, why buy conditioner with coconut oil (like the one you mentioned) or avocado oil (like the one I mentioned) if I can go ahead, buy a bottle of pure, organic, cold pressed, certified *whatever* oil and apply it to my hair?
The only thing I kinda believe may help with hair restoration is Joico kpak, protein sillicone-free masks, coconut oil, or any other oils, coconut one is the best though, and maybe eggs, but I haven't tried yet, lol.
a bit of a rant, sorry, thanks for posting anyway!
Oh, one more question, how can You tell if there's a product buildup in your hair? Such an interesting point!
Crow Crow Tressemme Vibrantly Smooth is not a silicone free conditioner, so they cannot be directly compared.
I think you are expecting rather a lot from a regular conditioner, they are only designed to smooth out your hair, detangle, and seal the cuticle after washing. They aren't designed to repair bleach damage. Here is a link to a great blog that explains what the various ingredients in conditioners can actually do http://www.thenaturalhavenbloom.com/search?q=deep+conditioner
Thanks for posting Intempestivity, I am always interested in reasonably priced silicone free products that are easily found. I have had a quick look for the ingredients in the other conditioners in the range, and they all appear (at first glance, I had to enlarge pics of the bottles to read them, I couldn't find an actual ingredients list so I apologise if i am wrong) to be silicone free, except the Marvellous Transformer one in the gold bottle. It has amodimethicone, which as silicones go isn't the worst one as it has been shown to penetrate bleach damaged hair. I will definitely be checking this range out next time I am in Asda.
I have a bottle of the 'sleek restorer' in my bathroom at the moment. I too was impressed by the fact that it didn't appear to have any silicones in it, which is why I bought it! I've used it a few times, and found that my hair really loves it! But my hair also really loves coconut oil, so it might not be suitable for those whose hair doesn't like coconut oil! But I will definitely be buying it again. And it smells lovely too!
I didn't buy this as a hair restoration product or a miracle hair mask ... I bought it because I was out of conditioner and I wanted something silicone free because I don't use SLS. This happened to be a new product that was silicone free and on offer, so I thought I'd share my find :). Product build up would leave hair feeling lank/greasy/sticky, so we'll see what happens.
Thanks for checking the others in the range, Wicked Pixie :). I'll confirm and check the shampoos for SLS when I go shopping on Saturday (unless someone gets the info before then).
Mindi, that's awesome π It does smell gorgeous!
Right, so used it for the first time tonight ... it smells lovely, like cocoa butter (my hair smells delicious). Because of all of the oils, it was a bit runnier than normal conditioners, but not like applying straight oil to the hair. My hair feels really light and smooth, so so far, so good! We'll see how it is after a few washes, but right now, I'm liking it a lot!
Ohhh thanks for this! I need new conditioner so will try some of this π
This sounds lovely!

I thought only xanes and cones are silicones. Which ingredients apart from xanes and cones are silicones? Tresemme's conditioner ingredients list:
Aqua (Water), Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Lauroyl Lysine, Aspartic Acid, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Leaf Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Ethyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Parfum (Fragrance).
I didn't expect conditioner to repair the damage, I just needed clarifying, as that's what I initially thought, i.e. that conditioners really don't do that much, pretty much almost nothing, are good for co-washing and smoothing hair out. Thanks for all the info Wicked Pixie, you're wicked! lol π
Sorry, my mistake, I didn't realise you meant the Tresemme Naturals conditioner, which is silicone free. (I use it myself.) The Naturals conditioners are the only two they make that are silicone free, they make another one called something similar that is full of silicones, as are all of their regular conditioners.
Has anyone who has used it got especially dry hair?
I'm currently using an argan oil conditioner that is doing nothing and this one sounds awesome (much cheaper too) but I need something really moisturising as a finishing conditioner.
I tried some this weekend and it's really nice. My hair is not particularly dry but it felt lovely after using this. (It's half price at Boots at the moment too.)
I used some too this weekend and my hair felt lovely but smelled amazing after!
I've tried co washing a few times it I'm a flake and give it up too early to see the benefits. Would you use this as the main washing one or the second one just for your ends?
Just used it again, and I can't stop smelling my hair, lol.
I don't have particularly dry hair, but it does make it feel really soft and lovely.
Meeshy, I think it would be ok either or? It's really moisturising, so maybe better as the second one. I don't co wash, though, so I'm probably not the best one to ask.
I think I'm going to get some tomorrow....I have to smell it now!! π
