Hello everyone !
I'm new on this forum and I needed an advice.
I manage to dye and bleach my boyfriend's hair at home, as I do for myself. Until now, he had blue hair which went to fade into minty pale hair with some darker tons in it.
Now, my boyfriend decided to go red (vermilion red from directions, we don't necessarily want it very vibrant, we know we won't be able to have one anyway haha), so we tried to go back to the very pale yellow under the color.
We did almost everything we could do (green clay + coco milk, anti dandruff shampoo, very hot and salty baths, and finally a bleaching bath) but we can't get rid of the color. We have to deal with this light minty color.
We considered to use a semi-permanent remover, but we can't find it in Switzerland and we're going in vacations on Saturday so we don't have much time to order one.
So the question is : What are we supposed to expect if we put directly vermilion red on that base ? Would it come out muddy ? What do you think ?
Here is a picture of his current color :
I've never personally used vermillion red, but I know a lot of people on here have and would have better advice than me! But I do think it might end up a bit of a weird blotchy ombre color, because of the dark roots and then it looks at least on my screen like the mid lengths are more yellow and then the minty green tips. I would personally just keep trying to fade it as best as possible, there are lots of threads on here about force fading, you just have to be aware that it will probably cause some damage no matter what you do. Good luck!
I think that it would probably go over, but it would be darker, starting to edge to brown on the darker parts. I don't think it'll look bad though.
Doing the bleach/oils/shampoo method would take out a lot of the green though. Here - http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php/topic,13842.0.html It's more effective than a bleach bath.
Personally, I really don't like this method as it damages my hair quite a lot and turns it bright yellow, but that doesn't seem to happen for most people! Besides, if it does turn yellow, that won't matter for red.
Reds are one of the best colours to cover other colours with but you might get some brown tones through the greener bits as it's the opposite colour.
Hello !
Thank you for all your replies. Finally, we couldn't wait to try, so we did it, and the result is much brighter than expected !
We'll post some pictures of the color faded, but for people who wondered, yes you can put vermillion red over a faded minty hair haha
Yes, you can, red is always very forgiving π It might fade a bit icky in the darker green areas, so watch out for that.
that's a great result, glad that worked out for you! But I do agree with Janine, the fade might be a little wonky towards the ends, but till that happens, enjoy!
Looks good!
