You can use oil straight after.

Yes. Though, I'm not 100% convinced olive oil doesn't stain very pale hair, it's definitely fine for anything darker than blonde. And probably fine for blonde too, I just had an odd issue a while ago, but it was probably something else.

"Do I absolutely need a color-shampoo thingy or would a shampoo that's free from SLS etc etc suffice?"

Absolutely DON'T need a colour shampoo. They're actually way worse. Even better, read up on conditioner only washing on the forum (also known as CO washing).

Added to that, you can use coconut oil while you bleach/dye your hair (not with direct dyes though, like manic painic etc). Put it on at least an hour before and then leave it on while you bleach/dye. It helps protect the hair and scalp.

Thank you so so much. Your reply helped me out entirely! I'll stay away from olive oil just in-case. And yes, I will use coconut oil a few hours before I dye my hair. 

Also, CO Washing seems very interesting! I've noticed that my hair looked and felt much softer when I skipped shampoo. I'll definitely give it a go! 😀

Those box colors are only for use over virgin hair, and color can't lift color, so no - it would just give you damage for no reason. Box dyes can be just as damaging as bleach. Can you post a picture of your hair now and what color you want to achieve?

Exactly. Virgin hair has not been processed. Your hair has been processed. It is no longer virgin hair. Again, you cannot lighten a dye with more dye. Don't use the hi-lift unless you are OK with very damaged hair that will have difficulty holding color. I'd suggest using a color remover and seeing how much your natural color has been lifted by the dye. If it is at least an orange you can use a semi-permanent (direct) dye over it to get that color. If you need to lighten your hair you can do a bleach bath in a month. You will get more vivid, longer-lasting, and less damaging results this way.
