Does hair heal?

Ok so logically I know and understand that damaged hair will not be able to be repaired as you can read everywhere on here. What I do not understand is how products that help restore moisture and protein and blah blah blah is still something ya'll do and it actually helps your hair yes? So is the point that your hair will never naturally have a nice condition, but with the right product it will be okay-ish? For example: Iv bleached my dark hair to blonde and obviously it was fried. However the more time that goes on and the use of coconut oil and protein treatments seams to have really started to restore the condition of my hair. Its been about two months and my hair is FINALLY feeling like hair again! Yay! What is happening with my hair? Is it really being restored? or is it simply the product use? I'm trying to stay away from silicons so that the results are better in the long run. smeh. What can I do to make my hair the best it can be??? Thanks for reading <3

It's just a temporary fix as hair is dead and doesn't have the ability to heal the way living tissue does. Long term use of certain products causes build up which is what's making your hair feel more "normal". Products do help damaged hair feel less damaged and break less but it's just like scaffolding or a bandage. It's not a permanent fix, if you stop using the products they'll eventually wear/ wash off and your hair will feel bad and break again.

Does hair heal?  In a word, no.

All the products we use just patch up or hide the damage.  Like polyfilla on a cracked wall.
Hair, like your fingernails, is dead.  It gets no circulation, it has no feeling, it cannot repair itself.  Hair gets damaged by so many things - from mechanical wear & tear from brushing, styling, getting caught under straps and snagged on zips, to chemical damage from bleaching, dyeing, and even washing.  Not to mention heat damage!

If you want long, naturally healthy hair you basically have to treat it like antique lace.

By the way - split ends need to be cut off.  They cannot be repaired.
