Does anyone know how to create Raccoon Stripes in hair?

Most of the coontails I see are actually coloured extentions that clip in. Doing your actual hair might be really tricky. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Most "coontails" are achieved through dyeing extensions, though the same effect can be achieved on normal hair. Techniques for creating stripes usually involve carefully taping sections with a mild adhesive tape or using condioner/petroleum jelly to occlude the non-dye stripes. Dye is then applied using a tint brush.

I would recommend purchasing an extension piece rather than trying to dye it into your own hair for the best results. Achieving stripes and other shapes or patterns in hair is much harder to do on a head than on a piece of weft. Furthermore, clip-in extensions can simply be removed or repositioned whenever you want. ;D I've been experimenting with hair dyes and techniques for over a decade now so I'm really okay with dying it on my hair instead of using extentions. Not so keen on extentions either. But i will try using tape to create the stripes. If i can find a moment to do it.

YouTube Coontails - here are some.  Like others have said use tape to separate sections if you want some of your base colour between the strips of colour.  Do fairly chunky size stripes as smaller stripes will bleed over each other quicker.  Use a darker stripe between colours or use matching colours e.g. red next to blue should give a purple colour where they meet and mix whereas red next to green may not be so nice where they mix.  You are best sticking to just two colours alternating unless you are using a black or dark coloured separator between each colour.
