Dark hair with light roots.

Hi guys! I have really dark brown hair. It is almost black. I have been coloring it an ion dye from Sally s for a few years now.
Now that it is summer and I have been spending so much time in the sun my roots have gotten about 2 shades lighter than my hair.
I am wanting to go to a salon to get subtle highlights to help with this problem and to lighten up for summer. My question is:
Should I color my roots dark to match my hair before going to the salon. I know that the salon can fix this problem if it needs to be fixed before highlighting but I would like to save money and do it myself if my roots do need  match my hair before highlighting.

Unless its super drastic from roots to the rest of your hair, I would try just getting the highlights and see how it looks, if the highlights camouflage the line then you don't have to double process that hair, but if its significant enough that you think it won't blend at all then I would go ahead and do your roots and save yourself some money!
