Hi all! Long time reader, first time poster here! I'll try to keep this brief.
I have naturally very dark (almost black) brown hair, naturally straight and usually in good condition - no split ends even when long for instance. Long story short I bleached my ends over a month ago to get an extreme dip dye and this weekend accidentally went over some of my bleached bits again with another round of bleach (I know, it was a very bad decision!). My usually resilient hair felt a bit slimy in the shower and when it dried, some of the ends have been snapping off. Luckily it's not falling out in clumps and there are still no split ends but the ends feel dry and a bit frizzy. From this forum, I know it could have been much worse but I am loathe to cut it all off.
In order to avoid that, I formed the following plan of action: I have to wash my hair everyday as my scalp is very greasy so I decided to wash everyday but only use shampoo on my virgin hair (blonde is about ear level downward) - I bought Organix tea tree & mint for this as I believe it is sulphate free(?). Then use Korres sunflower & mountain tea conditioner for coloured hair only on my ends everyday. Blow dry only my fringe and virgin hair on low and from a distance only for a few minutes and let ends air dry. Does this sound ok?
Regarding deep conditioning - How do I know if my hair needs protein or moisture? Can anyone suggest any good deep conditioning masks that I can use on the weekend? Ideally I want to go cone and sulphate free, based on what I've read on this forum.
Also, despite the mishap, the actual colour looks amazing - rich light blonde. Is it safe for me to use silver shampoo to maintain it or should I just give up and use a semi brown dye when it gets brassy? When buying hair care products, in addition to looking at cones and sulphates, should I also be checking if they are colour safe?
I hope this makes sense but if you need any more info please ask and thank you all in advance for your collective wisdom! I am trying not to get too upset about the state of my hair :/
Edit: Meant to add - is it safe to use toner to keep it from going brassy? I have manic panic virgin show or Jerome Russell Platinum Blonde toner (which claims to be ammonia and peroxide free). Any advice?
Ok, first off. there's no way around damage, apart from cutting it off. the longer you leave it, the further it travels up the hair shaft and makes it worse. so insetead of loosing 2 inches, you loose 6. I honesty can't recommend cutting enough.
never wash your hair everyday. Washington more makes your hair produce more natural oils. by washing you're stripping them, which is bad for your hair and scalp. try to stretch to twice a week use dry shampoo, hats or tie it back. anything that helps.
your blonde, how pale is it? For silver you need very pale blonde. it will help time brassyness, so there's nothing to loose by doing it. bonacure is my favourite.
if your hair is gummy or smiley, you need (once cut) to use k oak to put protein back in. once a week for 15mins is more than enough. I don't deep condition, so I can't help. but I think hoodoo intense hydration is meant to be good.
I hope I covered everything.
You should really cut down the amount you wash your hair. The more you wash it, the more grease your scalp produces as you strip its natural oils. It takes a few weeks to get your hair used to it but if you can handle it, stretch out the washes. Shampoo also dries out the hair quite a bit. You can use dry shampoo or baby talc to remove greasiness while your hair gets used to it.
I would recommend doing both a protein and moisture treatments for your hair. I personally use joico kpak reconstructor followed by the ion moisture conditioner and every other week i use the palmers keratin coconut conditioner. (Joico and palmers contain some silicones but i believe they are partially water soluble)
Your hair is very fragile so i would suggest using no heat at all and if you can have a small trim of the ends.
It is fine to use a purple shampoo. I like the osmo silverising shampoo which is from their color mission range. You can also use a toner as long as it has no peroxide. Manic panic virgin snow is much better than the Jerome russell. I have tried them both.

Thanks for the reply, lovely. I think I have to accept that cutting is the only way forward :/ Will be booking with my hairdresser first thing tomorrow.
I've honestly tried multiple dry shampoos but they either make my hair more greasy or sit on top of it no matter how much I massage them in or brush them. I can tie it back but my hairline and fringe are the greasiest bits and they look very out of place in my semi-formal office. The other added thing is that I run or go the gym about 3-4 times a week and no amount if dry shampoo can fix my sweaty helmet if hair 😮 I will however try to cut back by not washing on weekend days when I am not exercising.
It's very pale, even platinum in places. I have some silver shampoo lying around so I might try it once a fortnight or so.
Is it k pak reconstructor for protein? Do you use it instead of conditioner and then just rinse out? I will check out the texture once it's cut and then buy it if it's still gummy.
Thanks again 🙂

Thank you for responding. As I mentioned in my reply above, not shampooing is tricky for me at the moment. I will give dry shampoo another go this week and try to make it last.
Is this the Ion one you use? http://www.salon-services.com/moisturising-conditioner/
and is this the palmer's?

I have a few assorted silver shampoos lying around from when I first lightened my hair so I'll use those up and then try the ones recommended here. Thanks for the tip about manic panic. The Jerome box says it has no peroxide but it just looks... chemical-y? That sounds crazy, I know! 😉
Thanks for all your help 🙂

Yes,those are the ones 🙂
The ion reconstructor is also really good but has more silicones if i remember correctly.
As for your hair. I had the same problem. I exercise 6days a week, a mix of gym, gymnastics, circus acrobatics and my hair was always really greasy so i used to wash it every other day. It took three weeks to get used to less washing and i now wash it every 4-5 days even when i exercise. The first two weeks are hard but it really does make a difference. My hair feels so much healthier since i stretched the washes.

Hoodoo = Joico. Though that stuff is hoodoo, the way it works its magic.
Haha! Damn auto correct! But yes, it's insanely good!
