Cutting your own hair

I part mine in the middle and then cut each side in layers whilst it's wet.

I don't have a fringe so I can't help on that front unfortunately but if you have wavy/curly hair is probably leave the fringe until it's dry.

I would avoid trying to slide cut (like in the first video) if you are doing it on your own hair. One side will be easy, but it is incredibly hard to get the other side to match, because of the angle you are having to hold the scissors.

My hair is a similar texture to yours, I do the front sections by pulling them forwards, and cutting vertically. I then point cut to soften the edges.

I use Feye's method: http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/ to cut my own hair, and in my experience it's pretty much fool proof. It works every time and looks really good.

It doesn't say anything about fringes, though, and I don't have any experience with them.

Thanks guys, your advice is awesome as usual! I went to Sally's just now and picked up a scissors & thinning scissors set for about £20.  I don't know if I'll ever use the thinning one but it was the same price as buying the scissors alone. 

Post pictures of your results please. I kept trying to do that style and gave up and went blunt.

This is the method I use How To Cut Your Own Bangs/Fringe at Home! and it is soooo easy, even for a clumsy clod like me! It also shows how to angle the sides of your fringe to frame your face. I first used it to go from chin length to fringe length and now use it very time it starts getting in my eyes 🙂

I just wanted to chime in and say never, ever cut a fringe or face framing pieces while the hair's wet.  Water weighs down the hair, so you think you've done it nicely and then it springs back up!  I learned this the very hard way several years ago with an unintentional micro-fringe.

I'm going to trim my own hair today! Eek!
